My next hunt will be with my .303

Mine is fit just about perfect to my frame and I can shoulder it, open my eyes and be looking right down the sights. While still hunting my grandfather’s farm (it’s been in our family a long, long time by US standards) there’s not much more exciting experience than finding deer and dropping them cold with the 303. It’s beauty is it’s utility and history. I’ll look forward to you hunt reports

Razorback, one of the greatest movies of all time

For its time,

Razorback, Mad Max and a number of Australian movies have been made around the area I live. There are many landmarks and buildings I know well in those Australian movies

I live in constant fear of a giant pig running amok in my house . My other perennial worry
is a Drop Bear.
@PCC600
Mate I would prefer to face a wounded leopard or a pissed off scrub bull when my wife gets pissed off with someone. Would be a far safer proposition as a few have found out in the past.
Don't tangle with 4'11" of pure dynamite when mamma bear has got her dander up.
That pig in Razor Back would run scared and she uses drop bears for football practice.
It would be safer to rub a lions balls with sand paper.

Ballistically, there is really something to be said about the 7.7 mm round. I made a point of making my .303 Enfield (manufactured 1896) to be a show-off performer. I kept the same shitty, half rotted, original stock, reinforced it at points you couldn't see unless you were really looking, re-worked the pieces in the receiver so slop was reduced as much as I could get, had the receiver trued and a period correct match grade barrel installed. It is a sleeper, a tack driver, a deer dropper, and rifle that kicks ass. I'll be taking it to SA on my Spring 2026 hunt just like it is, unless the SA govt wont allow it in country because it's a military rifle. Plan B is switching it to my sporterized stock. No fun, but still total joy.

The Lee Enfields in 303 - in whatever Mark were and remain fantastic rifles . The “slop” in some respects was what made them even better . Weird looking actions but gee do they work and the old 303 was a very flexible cartridge .

Great job! I think your rifle is awesome... (y)

Geez with our countless varieties of venomous spiders and snakes , crocodiles and sharks the last thing we want to do is startle prospective visitors to Australia with the story of a giant pig which eats American investigative journalists .

Yeah, we're trying to keep that one quiet...

i had about 10-12 enfields over the years, but this long branch shot the best and with the right loads it will keep up with my SC 03A3 in 3006.

Hi PaulB,
I have a Ballard Arms Model 1885 chambered for .333 Jeffery Flanged. Do you have any idea where I can get ammo for this?

I am new to this forum so I am sorry if I am doing something wrong!
Thank You!
