Method Of Payment

Not an AH sale but GI. Per forum advice Talked to the guy about hour, liked what I heard. USPS Mailed a bank cashiers check, then kept asking was it delivered (come to past he had the tracking number), then demanded once delivered, shipping out with 2 day delivery, then said check was delivered and demanded the rifle the next day!
Could not find the check and he emailed a pic of the delivery confirmation but cut off the leading digits. So thinking scan. Previously, he did email a photo of the check and was able to confirm was legit. Finally got the confirmation complete tracking and PO confirmed was delivered but no letter.
Finally, next day letter in mail box. Buyer want check returned but refused to pay for gun dealer time boxing and preparing to ship and return check via 2 day priority mail.
Anyhow, I usps the check back with signature.
So, the phone call went well and guy was legit but turned out to be “flaky” and we got frazzled thinking was a scam and then both sides went of the reservation!
So now,?personal check with email tracking or CC if in a hurry or make be just the CC.
Bought lots of bullets here and sold quite a few rifles , no problems.
I’m sorry, but that’s a very confusing story. Basically you were the seller and you had a very strange buyer that changed his mind?

I think the poster was selling a gun. Buyer mailed a cashier's check that was supposed delivered but the seller did not have it. This created a nervous buyer. The seller finally gets the check from the buyer because there was some delay. But the buyer then demanded a rapid shipping time. Buyer then gets nervous. Seller requests the check back. Buyer complies.

Basically sounds like things did not go smoothly and everyone got cold feet over the deal so it fell apart.

Hard for me to fuss over that, it would make me nervous from either side.

Personally, I have made a lot of purchases online for firearms with members of various sites, but things only get scammier as time goes on. I will likely switch to GunTab. I can't understand why it's not heavily used already.

I also would try to use GunTab. Its a 3% fee for using their service (buyer or seller can pay it) but 3% is the same as any PayPal or other fees pretty much. On Gunbroker the usual credit card fee is 3% so I dont think its too bad of a fee. It does add up some with a really high value but to pretty much guarantee you csnt get scammed, probably worth it to me to pay it.

@agdodge4x4 got it right. I returned the guy’s cashiers check and he received it.
Since then, sold that rifle via CC at GI (guy could not believe my low price) and a pair of NIB CZ full stock rifles to a guy here (I held them for him for 3 months before payment) again via CC. Maybe my age but any hiccups, on either end, when dealing with guns, not worth my time.

Paypal is very anti-gun, as is Venmo as it is owned by PayPal. Zelle is a clean way to pay for something, as long as the seller is trusted. There is NO recourse if a seller is a crook and you payed via Zelle.

My preference is a credit card, but typically that can add a sizeable fee and most individual sellers aren't set up to use one anyway. Only other option for me is a personal check. That gives me a name and an address; and recourse if the purchase takes a bad turn.

Cashier checks, certified checks, usps money orders, other money orders; these are some of THE most forged methods of payment out there. And while there is a little protection with some of these for the buyer, it can be time consuming and expensive.
Was not buying a gun but recently paid a bill with a personal check. It was stolen and name washed and new name wrote in and cashed. It was for over 5000.00.
10 hours of filling out forms at the bank, police station, and social security office. I had to close my checking acount. It took about a month to get everything straightened out. The bank did reimburse my account.

Yeah, that type of theft is a real PITA. GF's daughter dealt with that for a couple years after a "friend" stole a book of checks. The most frustrating part was the girl that stole the checks never did a day in jail. Released on a PR bond, then plead out to some misdemeanor that resulted in a few months of probation.

Do you mind me asking what auction you are referencing? I'm not in the market for any of those rifles...just curious.
