Big She-Gator on the nest.
Every bit of 12-13ft.

Saw her back and top of head in the water yesterday evening and knew she was big but didn't realize how big until she hauled out today.

Scary thing is that I had been spreading mulch 15-20 yards from that spot. I went back into the fenced portion of the backyard to stake up some tomatoes, looked up and there she was.

Wow, some towels on that old girl!

Not sure if the same applies to gators but I listened to a podcast on African croc hunting and a trick to estimate croc length is: for every inch between the nostrils to eyes = 1 ft of overall length.

You are not the top of the food chain in your own back yard.

I've posted about this awhile back.
One of our neighbors was taken in his backyard about five years ago.

Similar situation, she-gator on the nest. The gator charged him and pulled him in the pond and drowned him. The gator then brought the body across the pond into the canal right next to our driveway.

She was just under 12ft, no predation, just defending her young.
She was dispatched by a DNR gator agent.

Those really large ones come from the ICW and have no business being in a neighborhood retention pond.

I will be looking for a set of these when my .505 is done... sadly not cashed up right now for these. :(
Need anything in trade?
