Loose barrel band fix?

The barrel band on my Kimber Caprivi 416 Rem has come loose. Anyone know the best way to fix this, are they heat shrunk onto the barrel or soldered, I don't see any thing that looks like solder residue or expoxy



of any kind. I am thinking of heating the barrel band in my small propane grill to 500 degrees and putting the rifle in the freezer then reinstalling the band. Any thoughts or ideas

Loctite 620 should get you fixed up. Clean with acetone first.

I have used two methods for either attaching originals or re-attaching ones that have come loose.
1. Loctite E-120 Hp which is a 2 part epoxy. This was designed to hold the nose cone on rockets....no really it was!
2. Loctite 620, Green cylindrical Loctite

Either method clean off the old crud from both the barrel and the band use acetone after. Apply either and us a rubber mallet and a wooden dowel to whack it on a bit. Make sure to mark a line so it is centered where you want it as you get a few minutes with the 620. The 120 epoxy is more forgiving but messy. i do think it holds better though.

By the way the Kimbers were notorious for that happening. So much so That I forced mine off and re- attached it because I knew it would come off at the worst possible time. It came off easier than when I put one on a bit crooked and had to take it off to straighten it. have acetone ready for clean up if using the E-120 and be sure to mix it well. it won't take much product.

do you apply it to both the band and barrel ?

Its not really easy to apply to the inside of the band unless the band is completely removed from barrel and not necessary in my opinion. Note where band gets tight on the barrel taper, and apply epoxy or 620 to the barrel in the area the band gets tight, starting maybe half an inch towards muzzle prior to tight spot. This ensures that adhesive gets on the inside of the band prior to it tightening up on barrel. Then tap on band till it gets snug over the barrel, clean up excess.

If the front sight comes off I would remove it and really scuff up the inside of the band. If the band can't come off all the way just get it close to the end of the barrel and carefully scuff a bit. If you can get whatever you use on both if possible or at minimum slight twist before gettin it snug. The acetone will work but best to keep excess to a minimum.... kinda like bedding compound. Once it's on and tapped don't mess with it for a few days. Full cure is said to be 24 hours but don't risk it.
