I’m looking for a free range female lion hunt with my bow!!

Hello Huntforever
I think you are looking for the impossible.
Let me explain.
Most countries where you can hunt free range lions like Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania, etc. only have 1 or 2 lions on quota per concession. Some concessions have no lions so these lions sell for a premium.
These countries only allow male lions to be hunted.
I have never heard of a lioness being allowed to be hunted in one of these countries.

Then to complicate things. Most of these countries will only allow bow hunting on dangerous game in the most extreme circumstances.

Your best option will be to hunt a captive bred lioness as South Africa will allow for a bow hunting permit if you can prove competence with a bow (supporting photographs, letter of your bow club president, or letters from other outfitters where you have hunted with your bow before).

So good luck with your search.
Hope you find what you are looking for.

Sincerely
Hans de Klerk

I believe Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe allow hunting of lions with bow but not sure about females. I believe Zimbabwe is my only option

I’m curious to hear what you learn on this. I’d like a free range lion at some point as well, but fine leaving the bow at home and using a rifle. I had come across a post on some third-party booking site with lioness hunts in the Save area for silly cheap…which seemed too good to be true…and because it was. It was an old hunt from several years back…when lions were not as easy to move and they had some special quota for lioness.

When I inquired about the current price for lioness was told there are no permits for lioness any longer and not sure they expect to see any in the foreseeable future. So while Zim was an option for lioness at least for a period of time, sounds like that has changed.

That was just from one agent though, so who knows what you can find from other sources. Please share if you learn more…once you get your hunt needs covered of course.

Good luck.

You might reach out to Faro East about lion in Cameroon. I believe they are all non-exportable and males have small manes, but would be in your price range if available.

Tanzania does not allow hunting of females of any species.

If you are specifically looking for a truly free range lioness hunt with a bow, I would be very careful about the outfitter and the area being offered. There is a big difference between an actual free roaming hunt and something being advertised as free range when the property is still effectively enclosed.

I would ask for references from recent bow hunters, details on the size and boundaries of the hunting area, and what the current success rate is before sending any deposit. Also worth confirming the current permits and export requirements for your country before booking.

A proper free range bow hunt for lioness sounds like a serious challenge. Would be interested to hear what options you end up finding.

I'm not aware of anyplace allowing lioness these days, let alone with a bow. I hunted lioness with John Sharp in BVC, so you may want to inquire with hm. He may know if it's possible and if so, with whom and where.
