Leupold 3-9

Oh, nothing personal at all, Buddy. I was waiting for the onslaught of of Vortex comments from our brethren. It seems they are merciful...for now.
friends don't let friends buy Vortex!

People can poo poo old scopes but as far as set it and forget it types these old Leupold scopes are great. Besides that, no one that I know of is making scopes with a gloss finish anymore. If you have a wood stocked rifle with a nicely blued finish they look absolutely appropriate. And they’re getting hard to come by when you need one.

I agree with you, if I had a rifle with blued finish like the Weatherby Mark V I would want a gloss scope so it would look right, on my current build I wish Cerakote could match that finish so it is getting Mid Night Blue.

What about our cistern?
Thanks for the reminder. The sun is shining and the solar is making good power - need to flip the switch on the well pump and fill the cistern!

Yes we are. Inappropriate? Sometimes. Curmudgeonly? Commonly. Dull? Never.

With regard to the scope for sale there is an alternate viewpoint- that claim is that the scope is 50 years old and that a similar new scope could be purchased for not much more money. Let's see: This is a Leupold Vari-X II. the nearest Leupold scope is the VX-Freedom 350 Legend. both scopes have the same power range, the objectives similar w/40 & 42mm and both are 1" tubes. Some claim that the optics and coatings have improved over the last 50 years. additionally there is the aging of the various seals. Leupold provides FREE refurbishing of scopes so other than the inconvenience of time at the shop, aged seals, etc is not an issue. As to light transmission and optical qualities of the two scopes, the user would be the judge as to any differences. This scope is gloss while the new one are matte. Personal preference for either. What it comes down to is price. this scope is $250 total. a new scope from Midway lists for $400. now on sale for $350 plus tax & shipping.

I'll take it.

It will look good on the shiny Weatherby Vanguard Deluxe that I bought my son when he became an Eagle Scout 13 years ago.

Leupold could absolutely OWN the market if they would just made one GLOSSY, versatile scope, such as a VX-3HD in 3.5-10x40.

Nice Report! Im about to pull the trigger on booking the LDE with Patrick. I have been talking about it with him for about 3 yrs now. Romain hit me up the other day with an offer I can't refuse for 2027.

Andrew, I commented that your on 375 H&H for sale was the fair price.

Like I commented, my classic stainless has the original 24” barrel.

Did you buy yours with the barrel already cut down to 21” or did you do it (or a gunsmith)?
