Thought I'd put a plug in for John's new book. I had the pleasure of hunting with John a few years ago and he's a real interesting guy. He's had a very interesting life and done quite a few other things, prior to becoming a successful PH. Spoiler Alert: The title, "Facing Down Fear" is not just about hunting DG. There are a few other lessons of life to be learn. The book should be a good read.

I had a chance to chat with him at DSC this past January. He’s a very impressive guy. I’l look forward to reading the book,

Do you have a link to purchase the book? Thanks.

I sent an email to John Sharp today asking that very question. He said it would be another month or two before the book is available in the US and he would send me the details when available. I will post here ASAP.

Thanks for the heads up. Sounds like a good read

I too am looking forward to this book!

The release was delayed when John's editor had to go in for an emergency appendectomy. We were all hoping it would be out in March.

I plan to have my copy signed by John while I am in the BVC with him next year.

I met John at the 2012 SCI Convention and he visited the camp I was hunting in Zimbabwe in 2013. Interesting guy and my PH had some stories about him as well. I'd like to see if any of these made it to the book.
I'll definitely be picking up a copy.

I am in email contact with the fellow John has set up as his U.S. point of sale.

He and John have both indicated a shipment of books will be headed to the States “soon”.

Last I heard only soft covers have been produced to date, but hard covers (and even a limited edition) will follow.

Tim,

Do you know if John will have them in the booth to sell and autograph at DSC next year?

Not certain....but I would think so.

I plan to buy extras from the U.S. distributor (who lives only 20 miles from me) and will be happy to get extra copies for anyone who wants one.

Anyone can PM me and I will keep a list of how many to buy. Once I get the books I will solicit addresses to mail out.

Tim

Looking forward to this!

FACING DOWN FEAR

My book is almost ready to be shipped to distributors in the USA, UK and Australia.

Sounds like another that once I start reading, I won't be able to put down.

Folks here in the Colonies can either order from John's website once it goes live...or I will be picking up books at the distributor and mailing them myself from Houston.

I will be paying the distributor directly, not going through the website.

There are some advantages to handling things this way. The distributor would not want to act as an over-the-counter retailer for single sales. I will be buying at least 20 books, so this makes some sense.

Early reports from the continent are very positive. One American I know who received an advance e-book has highly recommended it.

Looking forward to it, I've got my order in with Tim.

So far I am up to 20 books!

Doing our best to sell out the first printing!

Interesting post I saw on another forum, regarding John's book "Facing Down Fear":

I received an advanced copy for review purposes. It contains great stories, and John is a very good writer, with a sense of humour, so I was VERY impressed.

I look forward to seeing the print copies, because the photos are also outstanding.

Tarbe, I enjoy a good read, put me down for one as well.

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
