Idaho Mountain Lion Hunting Article - Sporting Classics

It is like hunting quail or pheasants. Watching the dog is more than half the fun.
I went on a lion hunt 30 years ago with an Idaho hunting buddy who had lion dogs. It involved a lot of running on snowshoes.
He invited me again recently. I told him that I was too old to do it anymore. He said that is no problem. We put GPS trackers on the dogs and sit in the truck drinking coffee and chewing tobacco. When the GPS shows the dogs have stopped we get out of the truck and shoot the lion.

That was a great tale well told. Thank you. I had enjoyed it when the magazine arrived and am thrilled to now pass that along directly to the author.
Hey Red Leg, thank you for the very kind words. Glad it was an enjoyable read.

Most of my hunts are solo — just me, my rifle, and a good map. Sometimes I tag along with an old buddy for a week in Zimbabwe or South Africa, but more often than not, it’s just me.
Big fan of classic hunting — bolt-action rifles, old-school tracking, and taking the time to really be in the moment.
Just did a podcast, check it out if interested!
