The Montana Outdoor Group’s subsidiary “Montana Rifle Company” will seek fiscal restructuring.

Kalispell, Montana (Ammoland.com) – Montana Outdoor Group, a private investor group, acquired Montana Rifle Company in early 2019, has announced its immediate closure pending fiscal restructuring.

“While sales of our popular calibers have been outstanding, production levels have not risen to a profitable level to continue, without additional investments,” CEO Calvin Bontrager explained. “New equipment would be required to reach a service level demanded by our dealers and conservation groups.”

Montana Rifle has been producing custom-grade rifles for nearly 25-years and has been awarded “NRA’s Gun of the Year” in 2016 and “NRA’s Gun of the Year” in 2018. Montana Rifle has also produced limited editions for California Waterfowl, SCI, RMEF, and many other conservation organizations.

“With sales of the popular M1999 control feed actions nearly doubling in 2019, Montana Outdoor Group, is actively searching for restructuring opportunities,” Bontrager continued.

I hope the new parent company doesn’t degrade the product to meet demand. The Montana action looks to be a very good design.

In short it sounds like they are saying that they can’t make enough product to sell at a price that people are willing to pay and be profitable. What they can make will not sell at a high enough price to keep the lights on and people paid and be profitable. They need a cash infusion!

What if they just raised prices to the point that demand dropped but they were actually making a profit on each gun? Or do they have fixed costs (making payments on machinery they have purchased) that require a total income to cover them?

Doesn't Dakota Rifles drink from this same well?

I just stumbled on some marketing from before the shut down. It looks like there were planning a “safari elite” line with nice wood and engraving. No prices disclosed. Hope if they get it figured out this doesn’t disappear and that it might be available in lefty. #safequeen

Looks like they finally listened to all of the input that they have gotten. To bad it never made it into production.

Fingers crossed their story is not over.

I sincerely hope they get their act together. My .338 RUM is a MRC and it is one of my favorites. I was planning on getting a .375 and possibly a .280 from them this year. I should have known something was amiss when they were a no show at SCI.
Sounds like they need everything... cash, labor, machinery and a better business plan.

Looks like a London rifle on the flyer.

In my efforts to contact them, there would be no difference in being open for business or closed. I never could get them to return a call.

I went to check out their website a few days ago to see if that had anything new and I saw this. Always came close to pulling the trigger on one of their rifles, but the fit and finish was just never there.

Mine in 375 H&H has done a fine job for me...duiker, impala, blesbok, warthogs, sable, gemsbok, kudu, crocodile, Cape buffalo, lion, lioness, bushbuck, bushpig, blue and black wildebeest, caracal, etc.
