Recent South African hunt that was the high point of my handgun hunting career. Took an old Cape buff with my open sight Freedom Arms 500 Wyoming shooting Grizzly Ammo`s 420gr Punch bullet load. Also had some handloads using a 325gr A-frame over 30.0grs LilGun. My other hunting handgun was a Freedom Arms 10 inch
barrel, scoped 475 Linebaugh shooting 380gr Punch bullet over 25.6grs of 296 along with some Hornady 400gr
XTP ammo. Also took a bush buck, nyala, warthog, red hartebeest and duiker. The XTP has to be the most consistent non-premium bullet on the market. A recovered bullet may not look pretty but they work. The Swift
A-frame is the best bonded JHP bullet you can buy. Each has its place..... Thanks for looking at my photos

Sorry I'm late on your thread, I just joined last week. Great job with your FA singles. My 475 Linebaugh is my favorite single I own. Great pictures!

Hey James, I saw this over on another forum. Welcome to AH!

Great shooting!

Very cool.... I would love to try hunting with a pistol one of these days.

Gentlemen, Thank for your good words... To be recognized by fellow hunters on a site like this is honor.........Sincerely, James

Spike, The 500 Wyoming Express is a round made by Freedom Arms for their model 83 frame.... The m-83 cylinder was to small for any of the other 500 cartridges because of the rim sizes. The FA`s designers decided to add a belt, just like a 458WM, to their 50 caliber round so it would fit their cylinder and be able to extract with the ejector rod. Its not a 500 S&W but some very respectable velocity`s have been achieved , with heavy for caliber bullets. However, with the single action being a light weight compared to the 500 and 460 S&W`s the recoil can be wicked. Let me finish by saying that the 500WE has all the power needed for any big game as long as you put the bullet in the right place..... Hope this explains the cartridge as you can go to Freedom`s website for more info and load data...
All the best, James

this is the cartridge I used on my buff...…

I have both the 500 wyoming express and the 454 casull in Freedom arms packages. 500 wyoming express is superior in every way as it relates to stopping and putting down dangerous game.

.475 L is my favorite. I wish Hornady still made the 400 gr XTP. Fortunately, I have a decent supply on the shelf.

I have a decent supply myself, but I'm moving to cast bullets.

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.

Business is the only way to fly. I'm headed to SA August 25. I'm hoping that business isn't an arm and a leg. If you don't mind, what airline and the cost for your trip. Mine will be convoluted. I'll be flying into the states to pick up my 416 Rigby as Thailand doesn't allow firearms (pay no attention to the daily shootings and killings) so I'll have 2 very long trips.
