I have posted before of my aversion for black plastic stocks. I won a Ruger American in 30-06 that is so accurate I can’t just sell it. So just wanted to show my solution to the problem. Tell me what you think?

No I had it dipped in a burlwood pattern. Only problem was the guy I had do the job was not a gun person and I had never had anything dipped before. I love the look but I didn’t think about masking off the trigger guard. At least it is not black plastic anymore so I can live with it. I put a Galco Ching sling on it to help with offhand shooting.

You can now probably sign a licensing agreement with the likes of Walmart, et. al. and they'll sell even more plastic guns (because yours is much more appealing!) Just put a Timney trigger and HS Precision stock cut to his length with Mercury recoil reducers on one of my son's rifles tonight (as he's doing a stint in AK and his 7mm mountain rifle had a custom wood stock and factory trigger.) Instead of abandoning her at TV time I sat on the couch with the woman in lieu of the shop. Now for his 7600 06 home and camp defense gun... His 375 is perfect so no more work to be done there!

Mounted stock adjusted for zero, shot a 5 shot group off the bench that measured an honest to goodness 5/8. “ First deer I took with it was 168 yards offhand through the woods dropped at the shop high holder shot. Just can’t get rid of a gun that shoots that well.

looks great!

I had a ruger american in 308 for several years that I kept for the same reason.. it was simply lights out accurate... I wish I had come up with the hydro dip solution idea.. I ended up paying a couple of hundred bucks on upgrades like a boyds laminate stock and a metal trigger guard (the boyds comes with a cheap plastic injection molded guard)..

I let a buddy shoot his first deer with it 2 seasons ago.. at 54 years old he is now a hunting addict lol.. and he just had to have the rifle... so I ended up giving it to him..

Silly as it sounds.. I miss that cheapie rifle... I took a lot of deer and hogs with it over the years..

No matter how you slice it, the Ruger American is a cheap piece of junk. You can tell by handling them. That said, they all (my 6.5 Grendel included) shoot remarkably well.
For the money they are hard to beat.
Well cheap yes, piece of junk no i have a 7.62x39 my son a 308 they outstanding ugly rifles. early versions had magazine issues.

I too hate synthetic stocks, but I understand for bad weather they are great. I would not have thought to have the stock dipped either. That certainly is now an option to consider. Who did the dipping?

Good day, Slider.

Do you by any chance have any 500NE brass left that you are willing to part ways with?

Best regards,
Boela Bekker.
