Heym Model 89 in 500 NE

Hell yeah! Beautiful!

Nice rifle in a great calibre.

Very nice Matt, please give us a report when you have had a few shots.

the wood was not an upgrade and even Chris (Heym's US rep) was a bit concerned the stock wouldn't match the engraving. however it appears to have worked out fine (luck was with me this time). the engraving is a major upgrade, I went with the highest level of engraving they offer short of complete custom.

my plans are to take the rifle on an elephant hunt in 2020.

I will test the rifle the second I get my hands on it! I have plenty of ammunition ready to go and plenty of wilderness right next to my house for testing in. I was told it may be a little over a week before I can get my hands on it though... will see if I can speed that up.

Beautiful, congratulations!

So jealous. Congrats. Now you have to tell us what are you going to use it for? I hope a rifle of that caliber is for hunting and will not sit in a safe or on a wall all it’s life. If that is the case I will volunteer to be a mentor/big brother and take take it to Africa for you. It’s the least I could do for a fellow ah’er! [emoji12]

Love it! Very jealous ;)

One beautiful rifle.

I was just informed that my new model 89 has cleared customs today and is at the importers store in Dallas! Ive been waiting a little over a year for this rifle to be completed so the news is very exciting. the next step is to have the rifle shipped to me in WA, which should hopefully be in the next week or so.

here are some quick cell phone pictures they sent me when the gun arrived. I was told they were on there way out so better pictures will have to wait till they have more time.

for a bit of fun I took some pictures of the ammunition ive been collecting for the rifle.

first up is an extremely expensive box of Norma ammunition loaded with Woodleigh FMJ:

here is a box of Barnes ammunition loaded with their banded solids:

here is a box of Hornady ammunition loaded with their DGS bullet that I got off the clearance shelf at Cabela's:

last but certainly not least, here is a box of Federal ammunition loaded with Woodleigh's Hydrostatic solid (this is the ammunition the rifle was regulated with):

for those who are unfamiliar with the 500 NE 3" cartridge, here is a picture of one next to a 9.3x62 case (which is the same size as a 30-06):

Matt85, out of curiosity why did you purchase ammo other than what the gun was regulated with? I'm sure that stuff isn't cheap. Do you reload or will you be using factory ammo for all of your shooting? Providing you get test targets from Heym would you please post them? More than anything I was wondering how multiple cold barrel shots from each respective barrel group as well as the overall group size. I've never been at a range when a double rifle was shot. I fully understand that doubles of this caliber are intended to shoot minute of elephant not MOA.

So I suppose a rifle of that caliber runs approximately $15-$20K?

The 89B starts at just north of $20K. Given the engraving and all I’m guessing that Matt’s would run more in the $30K territory.

Sir, I will gladly take that 16 gauge off your hands. I was waiting for your Winchesters but I'm a sucker for a 16 ga.

I bought a great deal of the brass he had for sale, plus I already had many hundred rounds.

How much brass are you looking for?
