Back in probably the '60's as a pre-teen I had a book about planning your safari. I don't know what became of it and haven't been able to figure out what it was called. Would have been published sometime in the 60's I think.

If memory serves the dust jacket was white with green lettering. The word "Safari" was certainly in the title and probably "Planning" or "Guide" or something close to that. Kenai was still open because there were chapters in this book about each hunt-able country. I believe it had a section of the most useful English to Swahili words. That's about as close as I can get. I've certainly spent hours on the Internet looking for a book that would resemble this, looking at images of books. Checked Safari Press. Checked Abe' Books. Anyone got this on their book shelves. Thanks.

Hello Sourdough!

Tricky question... Maybe one of those books will do:
Robert M. Lee: "Safari Today - The modern safari handbook", 1960
William D. Holmes: "Safari RSVP", 1960
George L. Herter: "The truth about hunting in today's Africa", 1963

The Lee-book has several pages of swahili-english terms in the appendix. It's also the better book in my opinion and yes, also about Kenya. I guess Bob Lee was also an Outfitter for Angola, he even shot a Royal Sable. He also wrote the book "China Safari" about Argali-hunting.

I can't tell you anything about the Herter-book, as i don't have it. But the other two books are fun to read, especially Lee's (many photos, more information). A great look in the past, the "Golden Age of Safari"...

Just took a few photos - please take a look at the contents.

Best regards:

Or probably this one:

Burk H. Stelzner: "Guide to Safaris", 1969

The jacket is white and green, and the word "safari" on it... A swahili-dictionary also! :)

@Kouprey wow, thanks for posting this and taking the time to add the photos.

BINGO! Guide To Safaris it is, although Safari Today - The modern safari handbook looks awesome as well.

Thank you SO much. I have no idea how I didn't find that my self.

You might have edited your post on the PH in the Bubye. I know the PH and is a wonderful person and a fmaily man and runs a succesful business in Zim and just doesn't want the attention that the internet offers, the ugly kind.

Hello,

Am I reading your post correctly to say that the Tsavo rifle will be coming out with a composite stock later this year? I ask because I had been looking very hard for a Tsavo, but if there is going to be a composite stock model I will wait for that.

Thank you for your time,

Andrew

Saw your post. Nice. Denver too. Genesee area (just off 70) if ever up this way. Alternatively, do you have a membership at GGC? Whatever, you'll have a wonderful time in Africa. Enjoy.
