My name is Frantisek and I have been hunting since 1991.

Over the years hunting has taken me to different parts of Europe and beyond, and one of the things I enjoy most is getting to know local hunters, their traditions and the way hunting is done in different countries.

I live and hunt in the Czech Republic, so that is naturally the area where I know the hunting culture best, but I have also spent many years travelling and exchanging hunting experiences with hunters from other countries.

I joined AH mainly because I enjoy reading real hunting reports and discussions between hunters who actually travel.

I'll be happy to contribute where I have useful first-hand experience, especially regarding hunting in the Czech Republic and Central Europe.

As we say in Texas- -Jak Se Mas ! My family immigrated from the Frankstat area in the Czech Republic to Texas in 1883. I have been to Prague twice and loved it.

Welcome!

The Czech Republic is a wonderful country. I made many trips to Prague and to Zlin years ago. I can’t remember the name, but there used to be an excellent restaurant maybe a block from the St Charles bridge that had great food and beer, that sold local art from the walls of the restaurant… I’d love to visit that place again if it still exists..

:S Welcome:

Good day! Welcome to AH!

Welcome. I spend a lot of time working and hunting in Czech Republic. Great country!

Welcome! I absolutely loved my time in your country! I look forward to your hunt reports.

Welcome Sir - We look forward to hearing from you. I am in the USA in KY and while I have hunted some other parts of the world that is not my home range. Locally, my big game hunting is confined mostly to Eastern Whitetail deer and wild boar which originated from European black boar transplanted many decades ago.

I hunt deer only in Kentucky and West Virginia. It is done mostly in deep woods using a still hunting method where the hunter selects a "Stand" to hunt based on deer's activity patterns and likely routes to/from food, water and bedding sites. Hunting the rut also allows us to use scent lures and rattling of horns to attract dominant bucks. No spot n stalk as the terrain makes silent movement almost impossible. Sometimes we put one game drives but I have never found them to be very productive. Shots are close most of the time less than 100y with max range being about 200y. Nothing like our Western States.

Something non American hunters often do not realize is how diverse the different USA states are. I am in the Appalachian Mountain range that is heavy timber. The Desert Southwest is more open, dry, with sparse cover. The Northwest is very wet and even more trees and cover than back East. The plains are grassland but the Rockies are steep, tall mountains with lots of rocks. Out West we have to deal with more large predators such as Wolves, Grizzly Bears, and Mountain lions. In the East it is only Coyotes, Bobcats and Black Bears which are smaller and less aggressive. Then there is Alaska. Totally different from all the rest. And Texas, a whole nother country. My Texas friends say they can hunt anything except Black Bears and Giraffes.
