Hello, I just returned from SA (Free State) on my first trip to Africa, and to say I am addicted would be an understatement! I just purchased a matching set of Winchester Model 70's (30-06 and .375 H&H) and am already booking a return spiral slam trip. Have been reading on here for a good time but now actually have something to contribute.

:S Welcome:Looking forward to hearing about your trip!

Good day! Welcome to AH!

It was a bucket list trip and I started the booking process in 2023 until I received a tax bill that put the brakes on us going. On a whim I bought a raffle ticket and won so now myself, son, and 2-buddies were doing the countdown.

We went into thinking since it was a raffle hunt would not be too great but it was awesome. My son and I hunted with a PH that I told I don't want to truck hunt and he was very happy and we stalked everything. Averaged around 8-10 miles a day and I wouldn't want it any other way.

I was lucky enough to take 6-mature animals (blue wildebeest, black, Gemsbok, blesbok, springbok, and a very old and broken off impala). I used the PH's old, custom 30-06 shooting boring Federal 165 fusion and had all 1 shot kills from 175-400 yards.

The people, the country, the history, all the game it was incredible!

Here's a photo of Tony receiving that Shaw & Hunter award at the 1970 annual EAPHA Dinner Dance. Tony Dyer, then EAPHA President and Princess (Sunny) von Auersperg presented it. I also attended the event.
