Willkommen Fritz 2611. AH is "group therapy" for hunting addicts such as yourself. Here we enjoy reliving the experiences of other hunters while sharing our own. You will find lots of very knowledgeable and experienced folks responding to all topics and or questions others may have. I'm looking forward to seeing some of your German Hunting Pictures as well as those from your previous trips to Africa. Do you have any plans to hunt Africa in the near future? If so what species? What kind and caliber rifles do you own? Do you reload?

@Shootist43 That's good to know this year I will do a red deer hind hunt in Poland beside of the hunting at home, season started a week ago and I'm still at work:mad::mad::mad: but tomorrow I'll get back home and then start with the buck season Wednesday morning. I still have alot of African Plains game spieces on the list so far I shot Oryx,Hartebeest Warthog, Wildebeest (blue) and Kudu so there is alot more to do. The only plans I have for the nearer future is Eland Buffalo and a Management hunt. But most probably earliest in 2020. I do reloading! My rifle battery is 22 250 Tikka, 7X57R 16/70 Combination(Drilling), 7X57 Heym, 8x57IS K98, 3006 Sauer 202 (old production line), 300 WSM Tikka, 375 H&H Sako semi custom.
If I can help anybody with Infos please feel free to contact me.

Cheers

Hey,

Fritz2611, My father was born in Unna and I still have relatives living in that area and in Essen. I've visited Germany, or rather spent a couple of weeks there when I was still working for Ford Motor Co. But I've never hunted in Germany. For a young man, you have quite a good battery of rifles. I have a few unusual rifles that include my Opa's single shot 9mm Flobert, a Drilling that my father brought home from WWII and a Brno Combination 12/7x65R. I don't have any experience with the 300 WSM. How accurate is it compared to your other rifles? I own and reload for quite a few different caliber rifles but my favorite is the 6.5 x 55 Swedish Mauser.

Since you enjoy reloading you might like checking out Nathan Foster's website https://www.ballisticstudies.com/
He is a long range hunter from New Zealand that has done a lot of research on many different rifles, calibers, bullets etc.
I really use it a lot.

Hedy shootist43,
I did my militarey service not far away from Unnar but I have never been there I live near Hannover. The 300 WSM is a great round in accuracy one of my hunting concessions is a wide open landscape so I use it Mainly for Fallows on long distance but its also a great wild boar round, but on wild Boars you can stalk in in closer Distance so a long range caliber is not necessary, I use it also for Plains game and for red deer in scotland. When you like to have a look in the Germany Hunting Pictures thread I posted a couple of pics the one with the stainless Barrel and the GRS Stock is the 300 WSM it is a Tikka and it's a crackin piece of kit in my opinion. Drillings and other combinations are still very common in Germany, but slowly they get replaced by bolt actions because they are mor suitable for driven hunts, which is very popular in Germany. The Swedish Mauser is an incredible good round very accurate and mild recoil, but in my area we prefer a bit more power because we have lot of boars and from time to time you are encounterd by a big boy, last month I shot for example 2 guys over 160 Kg live stock weight so around 120 Kg disembowelled these are tough guys and in both cases the 300 wsm bullet get stuck under the skin at the far side and did not pass through. But 6,5x55 is legal for any big game in Germany. What do you hunt in your area? I told so much about me now I want hear some of your stories.

I'm unfortunately on a diet. Presently in VA hospital as Agent Orange finally caught up with me. Cancer and I no longer can speak. If all goes well I'll be out of here and back home in Thailand by end of July. Tough road but I'm a tough old guy. I'll make it that hunt.

Nice one there. I guided for mulies and elk for about 10 or so years in northern New Mexico.
