I just rejoined the 500J club. The main reason is because it is a great stopping round and also because it is very versatile. The 8,100 ft lbs you listed is definitely on the high side of the scale. I'm curious what bullet that is and how much powder your using to push it. The Gibbs at 7,000 is definitely on the low end of the scale and it is capable of much more than that. The reason I like the 500J is that it is very forgiving when it comes to power levels and there are far more options on bullet types and weights. Sorry to highjack the thread, but I had to give my 2 cents. I am however having 350 grain Safari Raptors loaded for my 500J so I will be trying it on plains game as well on my next buffalo hunt. A larger one gun safari rifle than normal, but one gun and one barrel to get the job done.

@Schüler Jumbo Ok I will let go again as it diverges from my original thread and I requested otherwise. You cannot list your hot loads for your Jeff and list standard load muzzle energy for others and then draw conclusions from the numbers.

For example, a hit to the rumen of a buffalo with your Jeff isn’t going to magically stop or drop it, regardless of the energy on paper. Conversely, a well-placed CNS shot from my 9.3×62 can be immediately fatal.
Ultimately it is not the energy alone that kills or stops, there are more important factors. Energy and weight are only two of the numerous variables in your premutaions and combinations.

but do you truly consider two separate barrels as one rifle. It's not what comes to mind as far as I'm concerned.

I did a lot of research on this and scoping out options -- I settled on a 416 and sighted it in with 350gr bullets. I load my own so I developed a load for my 400 gr bullets that put them only 2 in low at 100yd, for me that's 1 in low at 50 -- negligible for my DG aspirations. and the 350s will reach out very nicely and if I want more -- I also have some 300 grain loaded . Just practice with them all and know where they shoot . Or use the little colored stickers on your scope turret to help you remember if you are a turret spinner.
My last trip was a two gun --416 and 338 , I decided this next one will be a one gun, 375 H&H and I already feel under gunned lol--
