Further concerns on use if a .375 H&H for anything at all...readers be warned

WTB CRF 375H&H for an upcoming hunt in Chicago for mice and Norway rats with SouthSideSafari's. Haven't bagged any yet as this is my first DG hunt for these beasts. I have factory Barnes TSX in the 300grain, but some have suggested the Swift A-Frame for the big Bull Norway Rats to anchor them before they escape to the nearest dumpster.

Also considering Tetanus shots before travel. What do you guys think. Any suggestions?
Snake boots. Them rats got big teeth.

Well, I’ll be.

I actually thought it was a good thing and I own one. Sure it’s a safe Queen but it’s not going anywhere.

It seems like it has been relegated to the same realm as the .243 and should be in some parallel to universe because it doesn’t live up to the hype.

Like a .243 it is inadequate for anything other than a Tomato stake.

Someone needs to reinvent the wheel and invent a new DG cartridge for the Millennial crowd soy drinking purple haired Liberal Californian kids who haven’t had to provide for themselves, harvest real food or spent a day outdoors.

Just waiting on that next latest and greatest DG cartridge. One stipulation for all those budding inventors, Wildcatters or Ballistics Nerds or the Hornaday marketing team, It has to be “an absolute laser”. On that note I suggest it would need Creedmoor DNA to achieve this but I have heard it so often that even I might start to believe it.

But, I do have a 6.5x55 that I will load to “Full Potential ” just to see what I can do.

Why even bother with DG cartridge in an AR platform?

Most African countries don't allow them.

"Pushing the limits" in Africa hardly ever works out well...

If you just want to spend a week in a hotel near JNB, then that's your prerogative...

I'd rather hunt.
Dave,

Its possible that you missed the extreme sarcasm and satire of the original post. I am, in fact, a huge fan of the round and was drawing attention to the significant crapping on the .375 H&H that has been going on lately.

A .375 H&H is perfectly adequate for buffalo, with a proper bullet, and proper shot placement.

Unfortunately, "game ranch" hunts in RSA are now in fashion, and tend to lend themselves to inexperienced hunters who have never fired big rifles.

IMO, this is foolhardy," but to each their own...

A "gut shot" buffalo with .375 is just as dangerous as a "gut shot" buffalo with a .600NE.

If safari companies would test their hunters on a range prior to the hunt, this shouldn't be a problem.

If the hunter can't place bullets at 5 MOA, then they really have no business of even being there.

(But, IMO, no company would deny them the opportunity to hunt, so the company just needs to deal with learning how to deal with very dangerous wounded game.)

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes...

I like to shoot rats with a .375, hence the term “rat caliber”, after all one needs to use “enough gun”

…because they likely would have very few clients out hunting.

I’ve helped with a few hunters in South Texas.

Most are overgunned and underpracticed.

Dude, this thread is sarcasm.

A restocked Remington 798 (Zastava 98) with Warne low QD rings.
May I ask where you sourced the stock? It’s the only part lacking on my Zastava build. Already been quite the rifle, but I’d like a slimmer piece of timber on her.

Has anyone used mathematics to prove whether a 375 is effective?

3,7 and 5 are all prime numbers. Coincidence? Maybe not.
When multiplied we get 105, this is the Fahrenheit temperature of an average dog when working a field.

If we add these numbers up we get 15, in dog years (7) we are now back to 105.

I don’t like where this is going and am going to get a slide rule and make sure no dogs are injured in this scientific pursuit.

Perhaps somebody would like to tackle the letters H & H.

Hi all,

Given the plethora of posts about the effectiveness of the .375 H&H for use on both PG and DG, I felt compelled to share the following as I too feel that this 113 year old cartridge responsible for so many successful and ethical hunts in the past is now painfully obsolete.

1. The .375 H&H will not fit in a current AR platform. Everyone knows if you can't shoot it in an AR it must be rubbish.
2. If we would have changed the name to .375 Creedmoor the capabilities would have increased ten fold as common knowledge is the Creedmoor is some ancient language translated from Exceptional Mythical Capability.
3. The .375 H&H was recently observed eating kale and paying dues to PETA.
4. The .375 H&H never calls its mother. Not once. Not even on her birthday.
5. As a squirrel gun, I have personally witnessed the .375 H&H miss so terribly and laughably that the squirrel had time to run away and leave a dismissive pile of droppings in the time that the bullet left the rifle and when it arrived on target. A real round would clearly be moving in excess of 3200 fps.
6. The nearly pleasant recoil clearly denotes weakness and a lack of spine. This sad round would never win a debate on the superiority of capitalism and would quickly cede its ground on the importance of state ownership of the means of production.
7. I once went into a coffee shop in a foreign country and saw a .375H&H on the menu. I ordered one and was served a soy latte with extra foam and sprinkles.
8. The .375H&H doesn't like dogs.

I feel these eight points make clear that the only round appropriate for shooting anything anywhere should be unpleasant to shoot, unavailable in a reasonable number of rifle models, have no access to ammo anywhere in the world, and should have been invented at last year's SHOT show. I invite you all to share your concerns about this round so that we may all be protected from its siren song.

Excelsior!
PETA is OK with me! People Eating Tasty Animals!

I have a Chapuis 450-400 double that looks brand new and shoots well, never been hunted from what I can tell. I am willing to part with it as I have a 375 H&H Sodia on it's way from Dorleac & Dorleac. I am looking for $9,250 for it and if you are interested, I am happy to send you some pictures. Regards,
Steve
