Field Dressing Elephant

No worries, Red. I . don't blame you for your suspicions. It's always better to be safe than sorry. No worries. I understand the current environment. I can't say i'm thrilled with Trump or the new EPA. I say that as a hunter, and someone who loves public lands. I also believe that hunting elephant as proven as successful way for outfitters to protect the species and fund anti poaching efforts. Did I vote for Trump? No, but not all godless liberals are immune to research or anti hunting.

I have read that some folks get hurt in the process, so I will definitely be careful, but will hopefully join with the community members for at least the beginning. I can't think of anything more satisfying than giving back to the local community.

Thank you for sharing the video. It was informative. Congrats your hunt!
Cut your tail off and get out of the way. You’ve no business anywhere near that elephant is downed and the locals are inside the cadaver and outside with sharp machetes and knives. Elephantmaster js truly an odd username for such a silly and very obtuse question. One would wonder if you’re an anti hunter looking to doxx or cause trouble. @no I didn’t vote for Trump, but I am a liberal researching elephant hunting and looking for more info” ok man. Good luck with that. Post is what, 5 years old? You get that elephant killed yet and got in there and helped process it yourself? I doubt it. And any good PH would have you take the tail and tell you to politely get out of the way of the workers, who don’t speak your language. This is their food. This isn’t some science experiment for you to get in the way and turn something as meaningful as killing an elephant into another first world novelty.

Apologies for pulling off topic, but I've always been curious how does elephant taste @redleg?
In my experience tastes like old beef.

Hey folks, does anyone have any tips, or guid for field dressing elephant meat? Pictures also appreciated.
You do raise a lot of red flags, but I will give you a benefit of doubt.

Effort by entire camp staff, or by local community, depending where the hunt took place..
Interesting, like many times with other animals, knives are of all kinds, from paper cutters, up to field knives, or handmade knives from vehicles springs. But they are sharp.
Once the top part is field dressed, carcass will be turned over, probably by truck, and process repeated.

There is a tradition that from cheeks a kebobs are made, and made a barbique while field dressing.
Tail is cut, a claimed right by hunter. And from tail, a stew will be made for PH, client, etc... Most likely.
The trunk is highly praised, and will go to high ranking person, village chief, or similar. (If local community is involved)
The rest will be distributed locally, to village, authorities etc...
And biltong will be made for camp staff.

The skin, will be utilized for whatever use is needed.

Some professionals in industry prefer the remaining bones etc, should be burned, not left out in the field

I found it to have the texture of beef with a slight flavor of lamb; enjoyable but a little tough since it went from the carcass to kabob in just minutes.

As for helping, it maybe nice if more help is needed but with 20 men swinging axes and knives; I found it best to stay clear of the men who knew what they were doing.

It’s like taking your car to a mechanic then saying…
”let me help”

They started at 8am and by 11:30am the only thing left was the excrement cleaned from the intestines…… Nothing wasted.
