I've never been to Moz but for South Africa and Zimbabwe just carry anything extra such as a reflex sight, 2nd scope, small tools, gun parts such as extra magazine spring, cleaning kit, and/or magazine in your rifle case.
I carried a scope in my carry on once... "What is this military/sniper equipment for..." was the line of questioning which I had to remember to be polite and professional toward in my responses. Never again!
As long as it doesn't have any ammo in it you should be okay. I regularly carry my scope in carryon without issue. Once I was hassled at Toronto for a bit because I had a bipod in carryon. If they ask, it's for camera or binoculars (which it could be used for). They added bipod to the list of acceptable "gun parts" just in time for me to make my connection to Germany.
