I feel like using perfume at bait sites is so obvious, especially since it's a known cat attractant, often used in zoos and for camera traps.

I assume either it's not legal or the PH's just don't like doing it.

Interesting idea. A housecat is attracted to perfume, so it makes sense.....FWB

Would have to be a fairly potent fragrance to overcome the odor of rotting impala or warthog.

my idea came from the fact that when I was at summer camp at the Bronx Zoo, they got us to cover cardboard boxes in old perfume that we game to the tigers which they loved. We then learned about how scientists put perfume on camera traps to get head-counts and plan protected areas.

Hmmm, I wonder if that would work for bobcat in a cubby trap? Any particular fragrance that was preferred?

A PH that carried perfume around with him might get a few sideways glances from clients and fellow PH’s alike :E Sneaky::E Spiteful:

We use urine from cats hunted for other cats, especially caracal

I would only try perfume at a lion bait, if my X wife was wearing it!

We have four cats including the bengal who is a P2 so displays some wild characteristics. I cant say I have observed an attraction for perfume, but they go wild for chicken liver pate, just a mere hint of the smell and they are aroused. Bring out the tub and the bengal attacks it. What you dont smear on the blind tree you can have on crackers that evening. Remember the port.

I've heard of guys using perfume on bobcat sets (trapping) but never tried it myself. They're fairly curious animals so maybe.
I'd bet on the large cardboard box first though lol

Agreed!
Hunting along a river in northern Limpopo Province years ago, we came across a rotting warthog with giant tusks, but the smell was such that we kept our distance. Some carrion eater likely had a good meal there later.

I like beaver castor based lures for bobcat and lynx and some perfumes use beaver castor so cats might like to give it a sniff. You would still need bait to keep big cats coming back.

Sephora sells the high end perfume called "Juliette has a Gun". Probably should try something else.................FWB

Civetone is one of the main ingredients in Obsession, and yes researchers have found it a very effective attractant for big cats in some situations. Synthetic civetone is now available which makes it more readily available than civetone extracted from civets. . I suspect that in Africa, food would be a greater attractant, hence the use of baiting.

Yes I read about civetone in another thread. Was wondering if someone would bring it up.

Hello! I saw your post from last year about a missing crate from your hunt in Moz. I am curious how that all turned out? We (my fiancé and I) also hunted in Moz in 2024 and the trophies are being shipped with Hunters Services Limitada. We have some concerns on whether we will get the trophies home or not. May I ask who you hunted with?
