Do any optics sellers online NOT charge sales tax?

It used to be that if the business didn't have physical presence in a state, they didn't need to charge tax to someone buying it from out of state online.

There were changes in the law to change that "loop hole" and they are technically supposed to charge taxes to everyone now. I am sure there are exceptions and other loopholes in some circumstances that someone else might know in more detail.

But that's the gist of why you used to see it all over and now you rarely see it.

And to think that our Nation was founded over a three pence per pound of tea tax.
That was taxation without representation.

We now have representation to tax and rape us.

Do we really have representation?

Not really since they do as they want to do anyway.

Here in Colorado the legislature is suppose to place any tax increase before the voters to see if we approve it or not. They found that if they implement a fee that they don't have to ask our permission, so we don't get new taxes but pay a lot more fees'

Maybe they just bake it in to their price, but I bought a scope from Cameraland recently and they didn't charge sales tax.

I was up in New Hampshire this week walking around Dartmouth on a tour. We hit the gift shop and the bill came to $99.99. It then hit me, New Hampshire has no sales tax.

All things being equal on a price-fixed item like a German optic, if you can order it from a dealer in New Hampshire you’re going to dodge the sales tax because there isn’t any.

Montana also has no sales tax. Might be another option.

Quite a few states have passed laws where if you purchase something where no sales tax was paid you need to declare it on your state tax return and pay your state sales tax on it.

Colorado has had this law for over 20 years I believe

I think it’s there’s a volume required. If a business falls under a certain volume they aren’t required to collect the out of state sales tax. Leaving names out, there was a former sponsor that didn’t collect sales tax on out of state sales and there is a current sponsor that doesn’t collect sales tax on out of state sales.

In Oklahoma, that is called a "Use Tax".

I'd love to see the Colorado balance of power level out to being a "purple" state again, but it gets bluer each election. Greg Lopez is a longshot for 2026 governor, but very solid, competent individual.

You can thank Wayfair furniture who lost a Supreme Court decision on that. Prior to that, retailers were not required or forced to charge your local sales tax when shipping out of state.

Living in Montana, as long as the item is shipped to Montana there is no sales tax. Sometimes I have to explain that to people I am ordering from. Montana gets you in so many other ways though like property taxes and vehicle registration. All a matter of how you want to take your poison!

Yeah...I do...trust me.

I believe that every state that has a sales tax has a use tax for such situations.
