Would you eat a deer that has deer warts?

About 2 or 3 hunting seasons ago I shot a deer with several patches of, best I could tell from my research, deer warts.

I called the regional wildlife HQ, three times and sent them photos, to have them come out and look at the deer. After the third day without a biologist or wildlife officer not showing up, I got rid of the deer.

More recent I was out a couple of days scouting an area and be saw a deer that has a mass of what looked like deer warts dangling down between it's front legs.

I going to avoid shooting it if possible, but should I end up shooting a deer then discover it has warts, I would like others I put as to whether "you" would eat it or not.

After deposing of the deer I contacted a couple of knowledgeable friends who looked at my photos and could only speculate as to these masses as being warts. One said "he" wouldn't "trust it by the photos" as he couldn't be sure ( to call them warts). The other said, "IF"(?) it's warts, info'ed me a website, then "IT" me get be alright. But "he""I wouldn't eat it", '....if you haven't claimed it yet, don't and go shoot another one....', ' biologist should have been there the following morning...'. To say the least, he was pissed that the biologist didn't take my report seriously.

This past summer 8 western counties have tested positive for CWD, first for our state. This is our third straight year of a massive "blue tongue" disease out break, especially here in the northeastern part of the state.

Is it warts or something worse? Biologist may be getting more involved now. I..WE..hope so.

What state do you live in?

Tennessee.

Trip Cities: Bristol, Kingsport, Johnson City.

The 8 counties with CWD are over towards Memphis.

Several years ago, I had a deer with growths. I called the biologist with TPWD and they said no problem.

I shot one a 3 years ago that had warts all over, they all came off with the skin and there was no problems with the meat.

He had a couple on his head and a dozen or so along his belly.

Cosmetic surgery gone bad i guess.

Seriously, it doesn't affect the meat. i have seen it a dozen times and it will come off. sometimes it sticks deep with the meat, just cut it off and everything else is fine. Di don't know the cause of the warts...could be from something they eat of some kinda illness, don't know, don't care.

Sounds like a candidate for a PWD of any government agency to send sample(s) to pathology labs for examination, absent an already published set of findings that also should be accessible to any government PWD staff via the wonders of the world wide web these days. I can understand and empathize with the frustration of lack of follow-through by the wildlife biologist, but it probably all pays the same.

Maybe these are just skin tags of some sort, like I have plenty of these days along with our 13 year old mixed mutt? This can't be the first reported case of this stuff on our continent of residence.

The truth is out there . . . Trust No One

See you are from Denmark - see quite a few Danes where I stalk in Scotland - great hunters.
The Harkilia stuff works well in Africa - I have a bit for use here in UK.
I am again looking for 600 Nitro dies preferably RCBS 1 inch. The set I purchased previously are 1 1/2 inch and do not fit my die. Another member has graciously taken them off my hands. If anyone happens to have a set of 600 Nitro Dies that will fit my Rockchucker Supreme RCBS press, please shoot me a message and thanks in advance for any assistance you may have to offer!
