First world problem…

I have a couple of Blaser R8’s, 375, 300, 30’06

Ruger RSM in 416 Rigby.

Should I act like a reasonable adult and use the R8 for next years trip (buff, nyala, plains game). Use it like intended, taking the 375 and 300 barrels.

Sell the Ruger and put the $$$ toward another hunt?

The things to ponder on a Saturday morning while smoking a cigar on the deck…..

I will share my experience.
My experience is I never sold a gun. And I am quite happy about that fact.
So, dont sell it.
416 is great caliber.

Now, if the question is: shall I buy new 416 for me, or go to a hunt?
I would go for a hunt, because most probably my 375 can do it all.

There is an anecdote with my firend.
He has a snake in pocket, but has money, He is the type who does not want to buy a gun and spend. Becasue, his all around gun is good enough for anything, at least he thinks so.

Long ago, I told him like this:
Do you know what happiness is?
No. What?
The happiness is when you open your gun locker, before you go to a hunt, you look at your guns, and choose and pick, which one you will take out today!
That's happiness.

In later years, he bought few more rifles. Now he is picking and choosing a gun for a hunt. He is getting to it.

So you think he should sell a rifle and net maybe $1000, then buy a barrel for $2000? The math wouldn't work for me.

Keep them both as a spare. Blaser’s do break and need sent in occasionally. Any local gunsmith can work on a Ruger. You are limited with your Blaser and on their timeline. I need to send my Blaser in now because the front screw doesn’t tighten properly.

Don't you have a brazing rod or super glue?

To the OP it all depends on two things:
Your age and your earning potential. If either are in short supply then sell the Ruger and go hunting. If you have an abundance of either then keep the rifle and go hunting.

@gearguywb - As shown from the responses above, everyone is a little different...and certainly entitled to their opinion. However, what works for one may not work for you.

You need to evaluate yourself to find what makes you happy and then you will have your answer. If I had to guess, it wouldn't take a whole cigar to ponder this and come up with a decision that fits you perfectly.

I know...not the response you would expect from an unabashed proponent of the Blaser R8. Good luck with your decision and let us know how it goes.

At $1000 net you must be thinking it is a low end Hawkeye in 416 Ruger??? Almost any rifle in the iconic 416 Rigby with that huge case will be a lot more than $1000 unless it is a total piece of Junk and then the big magnum action alone should be worth at least $1000.

Okay. I can't really claim to know one Ruger 77 from another, but I still think he should keep it. Selling off good guns always seems to lead to regrets.
