Current DG Battery. Please Share Yours

This is the current active BG trifecta.

Top to bottom:
Dennis Olson 416 rigby on GMA action
Griffin&Howe 404 Jeffery on pre 64 Model 70
Griffin&Howe 375 HH on Belgium Mauser 98

This isn’t all but rather top 3 choices and if god forbid I ever have to choose 1, that choice would probably come from these 3 and it would probably be the 375.

Most people know that I have strong feelings about the 375, all bad.

That No.1 with premium .458 bullets would be my first and only choice between the two. It will usually drop cape buffalo with one shot. while a .375 will usually not. That No. is a a few inches shorter over all that the bolt rifle.

I think that the X-Bolt is an excellent rifle. It's the cartridge that I have come to dislike for cape buffalo, the hard way.

I've heard both. I've heard it's the best African caliber from everything from buffalo to impala. Then I've also heard what you said, it's not anyone's favorite for large-DG.

I have some time to think about it but these are thoughts well-considered. The only complicating factor is the 458WM I have is a single shot, the 375HH is a bolt action magazine gun.

Either I get proficient re-loading a single shot with a knockdown caliber, or I use a lower power caliber in lieu of that with multiple shot opportunities.

That is quite the collection! Very nice!
Yours as well good Sir, many nice Braces of fine Dangerous Game rifles in this thread, who says working your tail in the dirt and living a lawful life doesn't pay off?

My battery is a battery of one, an m70 .375. Unless you want to include a 30-06. Both rifles went with me on my very first but not last trip to Africa although only one was employed for dangerous game.

Mauser actions, 404 and 8x68 on converted military actions, 458 on an Interarms (zastava) action
Gumpy

Edit to add, I’ve also got a 280 nitro express (280 Ross) also on a Mauser action that is a reloading work in progress
I briefly had in my possession a genuine 280 Ross rifle in sporter in good condition. Talk about a gun and cartridge ahead of its time! The owner inherited it jammed up and asked if I could fix it. One about needs a license in neurosurgery to work on those straight pull actions! Took all afternoon but I finally got it working. He offered it to me for $200 and he'd throw in five boxes of ORIGINAL ammo (1930s?). I declined. I knew the guy and didn't want to rip him off. And at my age I need to thin my collection, not grow it. @Grandpa Moose sold it for him and got a very good price. I think the ammo sold for as much as the rifle. An intriguing weapon. Too bad it didn't work out for WWI trenches (action was too tight for that dirty environment and very difficult to disassemble and clean). But I understand snipers would sell their first born to get their hands on a Ross rifle. First cartridge to break the 3K fps barrier (250-3000 Savage bragged that it breached three grand fps but apparently not quite). Oh, I almost forgot - Ross rifle was Canadian.

Hi Dr. Ray, I will be in Cooktown from Oct 16 to Oct 23 fishing Lizard Island Black Marlin Tournament.

I have several "slack" days after fishing before I head for stay in Sydney and Fiji.

Do you have any recommendations for 1 or 2 day hunt near Cooktown?

I've hunted both DG and PG in 4 different countries in Africa.
Thank you,
Bob

Good morning. I see that you had a Sauer 202 for sale for $3,000. Did you sell it at that price?
I have one for sale as well. I listed it (on here ) at $3,000 as well. Is the price high, low or right where it should be?

Thanks. Alex. [redacted] in case you want to call me to discuss further. I appreciate your time help and support.
