*** Container Ship Ocean Travel ***

Thought this was interesting.

We had thought about Freighter travel a few years ago. Then Covid hit. It seemed like a good way to travel without a bunch kids running around and had many more unusual stops. Thanks for bring the idea back up, going to look into it again for all the same reasons as before.

Let me know how you get along. I personally like the idea of container ship or yacht for overseas travel, but don’t know if I would like the sea weather for an extended trip. It would be an adventure in itself.

It’s easy to romanticize about the good old days like TR, but the reality is that it is easier and probably cheaper to fly. Some aspects of the good old days may of not been that great.

I agree, the large cruise vessels certainly are more stable in any kind of weather/seas. It would most definitely be cheaper to fly in most cases.
Now a days I could only romanticize about those golden years of adventure...at my age I am looking for comfort with those adventure, such as they may be.

Not necessarily.
Cargo ships generally have lower center of gravity when compared to cruiser vessels.
To compensate for stability, pax vessels usually have stabilisation systems, and stability fins to provide stability at rough sea.

Moreover, combined ships - car carriers plus passenger, have the worst stability of all.
They are made with fewer watertight compartments to accommodate cars in a garage. This can lead to cargo (car movement) during rolling, or flooding of large compartments in case of water ingress.

Don't forget that Hurricane Season starts in Jun and goes into Nov. :ROFLMAO:

I have a Chapuis 450-400 double that looks brand new and shoots well, never been hunted from what I can tell. I am willing to part with it as I have a 375 H&H Sodia on it's way from Dorleac & Dorleac. I am looking for $9,250 for it and if you are interested, I am happy to send you some pictures. Regards,
Steve
