Build your dream, custom rifle

What would be affordable.
Left handed Ruger African, cross bolts, barrel band sling, banded front sight, upgraded wood, in 30-06 or 300 win mag. Possibly a 416 Ruger version.

The real dream would be a left handed Rigby Highland Stalker.
Then there is a left handed double rifle in 450-400 NE

Those which I personally have had created are very few - I won't count a few tweaks to my Rigby Highland Stalker when ordered.

Probably my favorite is either this No. 1. The stock is English walnut. The metal work is by Doug Turnbull. It has a target trigger and is chambered in .300 H&H.

Or this No. 1 which began life in the late seventies as a very plain 1B .270 with no sights and the large forend. The engraving was gifted from friends when I left Germany at the end of 79. Recently I had R.J Renner add sights and reshape the stock to give it the silhouette and feel of a German stalking rifle to match the engraving. It has taken a huge tally of game.

And finally, let's add Baily Bradshaw's magnificent 7x65R. Long and lean, it epitomizes the elegance of a single shot stalking rifle. Each of his masterpieces is unique.

I never grow tired of seeing pictures of your Bradshaw that rifle is exquisite.

Ok, Dreamer or Captain Realistic, build your dream rifle. No off the shelf rifles or of if they are, they better have a ton of customized components.

Ideally, you pick the caliber and then put components together for your "dream" custom safari gun. Barrel from precision research or Bruz or? Action from who? Synthetic stock or wood from a specific stock maker. Rings and optics?
It’s gonna take me probably 3-5 years to do it, but I’m currently working on it, the only thing I’d change if I had unlimited budget is I would up the action budget to get a GMA rather than a defiance CRF

Action: Defiance Deviant CRF (true controlled round feed, nitride, 3 position safety)
Barrel: 25” Krieger or similar if they don’t make a .416, with iron sights fitted by a good smith
Bottom metal and magazine: custom made by me to be Mosin nagant style single stack (easier to feed) and pregnant belly to hold at least 4 rounds in the magazine. I plan on 3D printing many iterations, casting the final version and polishing it to a nice sheen and then be nitrided.
Stock: Again made by me, it might not be quite as perfect as a Rigby, but it’ll be mine. English walnut hand carved.

I also am very on the fence about making it a switch barrel setup to also run 300 or 338 Norma magnum out of the same gun since the mag will be set up for that sized case, and it will make it a lot more usable on longer range with a scope on plains game, elk, antelope, deer, but it would be still pretty overkill. Hence me being on the fence about it. It would make more sense to do a 416 rem mag and a 300 win mag, but that’s not as fun, I want it to be more unique lol.

I know two PH's who use them daily for backing up clients on DG. Below is a link to a thread I started 6 years ago on this subject. FYI - I've cycled my rifle upside-down and the cartridges load perfectly, even when I do it slowly.

Blaser R8 for Dangerous Game

That was interesting.

Mine is me that never has and never will exist.

Self cocking hammer under lever double rifle in 450/400 with Damascus barrels and tang safety. Ideally a Greener but a Roda would suffice.

It is doable but I can’t imagine what it would cost.

Built by Hartmann&Weiss,
A 500NE, side by side double hammer rifle, rebounding hammers with automatic cocking on opening. Top lever and top slide safety. Double triggers, front one articulated. Quarter or full length rib, with irons, pop-up WR style ghost ring at the back and a place to mount a RDO as low as possible.

Just posted the exact same idea! I thought I was the only one!

Well... mine has already been built and resides in my safe, but I've got another I'd like to build one day...

A Winchester M70 action
Shilen 26" barrel
Mcmillan Hunters Edge Sporter stock
VX-5HD 3-15x44 with duplex reticle
Chambered in .300 Weatherby

For stalkings and driven hunts in Spain, something like this will be my dream custom rifle. With a 30-06 or 308 barrel and another one in 9,3x62 calibre, with iron sights, and octogonal barrel if posible (like the stutzen blaser k95)

For a safari gun, the r8 selous in 416RM will do.

I had a thing for belly's, just for aesthetics alone. W.J.'s Fiberglass, Tim's Octagon Barrel (Duane Weibe) ..

This PH's 470 Capstick, on the right .. I think that's magnificent.

Oh, no....I forgot about Hartmann & Weiss; we are talking about dream rifles here.

You know who is or was (he may be overloaded) receptive to any build ideas/to take on immediately .. was Matt Roberts. MNR Rifles.

He always said "sure"

Ryan Breeding "with all due respect" .. Never returned correspondence, after multiple attempts.

I have heard the Matt Robert’s has a 3 year waitlist. But he’s a great guy and makes incredible rifles.

A Fanzoj Kipplauf KB-1 if I were obliged to spend a lot. Or something similar made from a local. But I am not a spendy one. A merkel k5 or blazer k95. Wood class 4 or 5. Will be something like that.
However, that wasn't the exercise... so KB-1 8x57jrs

Here is a picture of what the stock with the receiver of my new R8 looks like. I'm liking the satin finish on the stock with the blued Jaeger receiver. I'll post better pictures when the rifle is finished. (y)

I have exactly the same set up - I normally keep it configured as a .300

Jake, Sorry to bug you again. I was wondering if you could share a. couple actual pics of this crossbow with me?

Xpedition Archery USED Scrapeline390X Sniper Gray Crossbow XACW1001 - Light Wear - Needs Bolt/Arrow Guide Spring UA5689

If it is in a decent shape, would you be willing to sell it for $100 shipped? IS it missing the retention spring that goes over the bolt?
Thank you Ferenc

Good morning John, I just read your setup procedure for the northstar duplicator ator. I found it very hand and I did learn some things. I have the same machine and I am having a problem i can not figure out and was hoping you could shed some light on the subject.
