A non-exportable trophy - but you have it on your wall?

I think that it is technically possible to use a regular smartphone to create a detailed 3D model of a trophy and then reproduce it using 3D printing or other fabrication methods.

Modern smartphones can capture enough visual detail to build a 3D model using photogrammetry—a technique that reconstructs a 3D object from many overlapping photos or video frames.

Has anyone done that before? Experioences? Are there any legal aspects to be considered? What are the costs of a skull replica (buffalo)?

They are multiple taxidermists doing replica tusks and skulls. Most of the ivory replicas are casts of the real tusks then hand painted.

The taxidermy replicas that are being made by hand these days are very expensive. I know your question is about 3D printing but I do not know of anyone doing that. It would be neat!

I'm not sure how it's done but pretty sure it could be using the methods you mentioned.

For $75 my taxidermist will 3d print you a hand sized euro of your actual animal so you have something to look at while you're waiting the 2 years to actually get it back from being mounted.
$50 for a second one. I guess the first $25 on the first one is for the mapping he did.
