Hi all, just bought my first double! Heym 88B 500 NE. Superior excited! Got a lot of great information off this site, now I need to start shooting and book a DG hunt. Looking for dies, bullets, and brass. Will post up pics as soon as I get my hands on her.

Well done @Skshyk, that is a magnificent rifle. It will be fun going for the safari preparation journey with you, that is half of the enjoyment.

I'd recommend getting a Trijicon 1 MOA red dot for it. HeymUSA has the base for it on sale at their site. They come from the factory with the grooves on the rib for the red dots so no need to pay a gunsmith to accomodate them.

I have it on mine, and all 5 PHs I met during my trip last August used them.

Congratulations ! Looking forward to some pictures !

Congratulations, you will enjoy the journey to your first DG double hunt.

Congratulations! That's a great rifle.
I agree with Tanks above. I put a Trijicon RMR red dot sight on my Chapuis 375 double and it works great, especially against the black hide of cape buffalo.

Congrats and enjoy!

Congratulations. Yes post photos. If interested I got a source for a better recoil pad. Made a world of difference on my last Cape buffalo

@Tanks That's good advice but it may not be always true. Heyms are custom and they have a variety of scope mount arrangements. Mine is a best grade 470NE that has a quarter rib with German Claw mounts and a factory installed S&B 1-4x rail mount. I've seen others that omitted the claws and instead used EAW integral pivot bases. I've seen others that had only iron sights and a slight milled area on the quarter rib for a reflex sight. The OP needs to make sure he knows what he's got before he can buy the right sights and mounts.

Heyms are great. Very reliable. Their regulation loads changed a lot over the years so if purchased used or new, he needs to know the load data for his gun. If he doesn't, Ken Owen is the guy to figure it out.

Is Woodleigh going to rebuild?

Yes/No/Maybe,

There have been ”friends of the owners” posting on other forums on the Internet With updates, so I’m repeating hearsay, but the hearsay seems plausible.

The facts as retold on the Internet:

-The factory was not insurable in Australia due to the nature of their business so they do not have the capital to just write a check and build a multi-million dollar company instantly.

-They state Woodleigh Hydros should be available this year. My personal inference is that they were made at a another location or by a subcontractor making their resurrection the easiest and fastest.

-Their primary machinery was trashed by the fire. The secondary machinery, spares, and backups may not have been a total loss. They are going to wade through the spares and see if the motors are still good and if they can be reused.

-There is conjecture that it may make sense to have a business interest acquire them and bring the manufacturing into the States.

The way I read all of this in my own mind is that Woodleigh will never be exactly the same again, but some products will likely continue in their brand or likeness In the future.

In DIRECT reaction this information, I opted to have my Heym 470 regulated with Hornady DGX and DGS bullets (and A-Frames) so I would not be dependent on the traditional Woodleigh softs and solids as they go through a transition period to resume production that could take years or never.

I have no idea the shipping cost from here to Costa Rica. I can do my research on shipping and get back with you later today.

I didn't see your request re: ship co’s. My last shipment was 2023. Quotes from SBS Logistics ($1,198), Badger Cargo ($1,184 - used them) & AHG Trophy Shippers ($1,746). AHG owner's an asshole so wouldn't have used him anyway. Eastern Cape - Houston, TX, so your mileage may vary. NEVER use Karl Human Taxidermy aka Wild Africa Taxidermy on Eastern Cape. Trophies arrived shattered with no padding/packing material.
