Bison at the Rockin G Ranch

Gizmo I don’t have enough coolers to bring all that back!
Erik has a reefer trailer, sort of;)

Or all you need is a cheap chest freezer and a small gas powered generator in the back of your pickup:)

To put it in perspective this is what a bison bundle costs from a store 302lbs of meat which isn’t even close to the whole animal

to Hunt one with me on a meat hunt
Meat cow total cost $4100
Meat bull total cost $4600
That’s guides, meals, lodging, unlimited hogs, and the whole bison from the tip of the tail to the nose and all trophy parts.
Meat animals will weigh between 1000 and 1500 lbs. either which way you look at it you’re getting a lot more meat (a little over double give or take) hide, skull, the whole enchilada!
Huge trophy bulls can weigh up to 2400lbs and cost 6500-7000. It’s a ton of meat but an 8-9 y/o bull will be a little tough but definitely edible.

dont think thats what its all about.

well Erik, shes got a thing and hes got a thing and, well, you know??????
when a mommy bison and daddy bison love each other very much.....:LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL:

It warms my soul to have American bison on the ranch. This young bull was having a drink of water.
Bison were pretty much wiped out in Texas by the turn of the 20th century. To have them back in their native land on my ranch is special thing to me.
Congrats Erik. Good luck.

Nice brother, they are iconic for sure. Took mine many years ago in Montana, tough critters to put down. And damn good eating!

The plethora of exotic ranches in Texas may help the bison like they did other exotics by providing a financial justification for breeding and stocking them.
My family loves the meat and I have been invited to an exotic ranch cull hunt in March - my primary target is another bison for meat. I have already taken some with my "old west " rifles, so maybe my .405 double rifle this time. :sneaky:

Gizmo said "If I can't make enough money to keep them going then I will only have a couple as a novelty."

There is a ranch on H380 between Farmersville and Greenville that had bison in pastures just north of the highway where they attracted visitors; they are no longer visible .
I was told they sold some for meat and pasture ornaments, but had to move them away from the highway to keep them from being shot from vehicles.
That is not uncommon on rural county roads, but from a 4 lane highway?

Good stuff!! Very cool

I have a Chapuis 450-400 double that looks brand new and shoots well, never been hunted from what I can tell. I am willing to part with it as I have a 375 H&H Sodia on it's way from Dorleac & Dorleac. I am looking for $9,250 for it and if you are interested, I am happy to send you some pictures. Regards,
Steve
