Hey fellow AH members.

Been trolling through these forums for some time and decided to join. Officially became a hunter at the age of 30 years old last year (my family was never involved with anything firearms/hunting related) and had a hard fight with a gemsbok and some serious bokkoors after two very easy springbok shots.

Being my first rifle, I bought a Remington 700 in the highly debated 6.5 Creedmoor for long range shooting and after realising how expensive precision shooting is due to having to reload for better results, I opted to change my main focus and move it towards a more hunting approach.

I’ll see you guys around!

Cheers,
Jayson

Welcome aboard and congratulations. While admitting bias, I have been a part of a lot of online sites. I have never been a part of one as helpful or information filled or fun as this one. Have a great weekend sir.

Very nice trophies. Welcome to the forum.

Good on you. Welcome

Welcome to AH! However if you believed one second that changing your focus from long range shooting to hunting and then had the superb idea to join AH, would keep more money inside of your wallet than out, you’ll find yourself badly mistaken!

Joining AH has been the worst (but maybe also best) personal finance decision I have ever made! [emoji23]

But you’ll also not find a more civilised and knowledgeable group of friends either.

Welcome to AH. You look really "happy" in those pictures. The 6.5 must still have you a little depressed...;) But seriously...you have some nice trophies.

Welcome aboard!

Jayson, welcome to the forum! Some fine animals to start your Africa obsession with. My first Africa adventure was with a 300 WM. After that I only took my 375 H&H. As they say…”Go big or go home”. 375 is my comfort limit or I would have gone bigger. You just never know what will show up in Africa that you might decide to take.

Welcome to AH

Welcome to AH! Some nice trophies there.

Welcome! Looks like a solid start to your hunting career!

Welcome to AH Jayson! Nice to have you on the posting side.

You’re totally right. There is a lot more reward going the hunting route for me personally, as the adventure, comradery of the group, and the people you meet along the way is for the most part better than the other option.

I’m happy with my decision!

Haha, I think at that point I’d put no more than 50 rds through that rifle at the range so I’m not completely sure what that 6.5 can do yet, though it wouldn’t have been my first choice for a hunting caliber despite quite a few positive reviews out there. Definitely one of the calibers that gets a lot of shade from the more seasoned hunters, and a few raised eyebrows from the outfitters

The 375 will definitely make sure that whatever you point it at stays shot! I probably should have mentioned in my OP that I’m South African, so I just never knew my obsession was there until I met the right people!
