Good morning all,
We are just back from an incredible trip to Namibia earlier this month. A lengthy hunting report is in process, but I am unsure about the process of getting my skins and skulls back from Windhoek. I hunted with Khomas Highlands, and Philip has taken my items to Trophaendienste in Windhoek for processing. I have decided to have all my taxidermy work done here in the states by my local taxidermist because of a terrible experience with a supposedly world class taxidermist well known on this site. My animals included a Kudu, Zebra, Blue Wildebeest, Klipspringer, Springbok, Red Hartebeest, and a Baboon skull. What is the process, to get my items into the hands of my local taxidermist after treatment and shipping from the dip and pack agent in Windhoek. Thanks!

The taxidermy shop over there can recommend some shippers to you. You can check those out and decide which one you want to use. Then you can either do all the import work yourself or hire that out. I always hire that part of it out. There are several reputable ones. I typically use Coppersmiths. Hope this helps.

I would contact Titus with Yellow Shark. He is a member here and is your best bet for price and service out of Namibia. I also recommend Coppersmith for your import paperwork. The two companies communicate well and will handle everything for you.

Titus reached out to my import broker and they both enjoyed working with each other.

They made it easy and he beat the recommended shippers quote by a bit. Yellow shark picks up at Trophaendienste no issue.

I would give Coppersmith a call to aid you in importing and they will coordinate with the shipper your taxidermist uses in Namibia.

The baboon will need to go to a USDA facility after it clears port of entry in USA. You will need to speak with your taxidermist if he has USDA certification. If he doesn’t, you’ll need to find a USDA tannery to ship your trophies to first.

Would it be worth having the Baboon sent is a separate small crate?

No. I’d have the taxidermy in Namibia do everything possible though to make the baboon skull a finished product. If it’s a finished product it shouldn’t have to go to a USDA facility after it’s cleared, but it’s up to the inspector.

Nope - just use a good import broker with a bonded warehouse. You will be fine
A bonded warehouse won’t change needing to go to a USDA taxidermy or tannery though after it’s cleared. A baboon skull shouldn’t require it but neither should warthog tusks and it seems a regular occurrence. It’s up to the inspector that day.

You're off to a good start with Trophaendienste, I used them in 2022, and they did a great job.

Trophaendienste > yellow shark > SSI >My front door. My father and I’s crates. I can recommend these 3 company’s for sure.

What did you have Trophaendienste do for you? Was it only dip and pack?

@Jeffrey Masters
Mine was only finished product. Euros/plaques and zebra rush lined with felt.

Let me know how your D&P goes

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
