I have a great case.... but as I get older the weight gets heavier.

It is an aluminum case on wheels.

Does anyone habe any recommendations for a lightweight international travel rifle case?

I am searching for very durable and tough, yet perhaps a bit lighter weight.

God Bless,

Dale

In for the replies

For light weight, the Pelican Vault series is pretty good... but you are giving up some of the durability and strength of the other pelican lines..

Lots of AH guys really like Tuffpak Sport Cases.. theyre not super heavy and have wheels.. I had one for a while and just found that I preferred my pelican storm and my pelican vault.. but.. honestly theres nothing wrong with tuffpak at all.. theyre great cases.. I just personally preferred the pelicans..

I have used an SKB 5009 for 20 years now, used at least once annually, sometimes twice a year. I took it to Africa for the first time last year, but fly frequently domestically to hunt being I live in Alaska. It has been a great case. It is scarred and scratched externally from lots of rough handling, but hasnt failed to protect contents and is still structurally sound. Also airtag type trackers work well in it, not sure if they work inside aluminum cases.

I have been using Pelican cases for the last number of years. I also have Tuffpak, but had issues with TSA just throwing soft cases back in without paying attention to security inside the case.

I love my Tuffpak and don't know that I would switch to another case unless I was only taking 1 rifle and or a take down rifle.

Picked mine up @EuroOptic store. Cheaper than this advertised price. It’s replacing my 20+ yo pelican.

Another vote for the SKB 5009. It's a little less than 19.5 pounds empty. Also have one similar from Harbor Freight with foam cut to fit one large target rifle, it's 23.7 lbs.

I’m going to get rid off a tuff Pak 11-32 , it doesn’t fit any of my rifles ( my bother has a sauer 202 bd 375 , 300wm combo) and still says my rifle will fit if I break it down ! So I need to buy a newer model or something else

How much does your current case weight? A sturdy case, with sturdy hinges and locks, wheels and plenty of high quality foam, will always have some mass to it.

I use a Nanuk 985 for hunting trips that involves airtravel. The case has ample room for a disassembled rifle, scope, suppressor, magazines, tools etc. The case has wheels and is a joy to roll through an airport. The short length makes it easy to find space for it in taxis, cars, boats, etc. along the trip.

7,2 kg / 15.8 lb, interior dimensions: 930 mm x 368 mm x 152 mm / 36.6 in x 14.5 in x 6 in

I like the Nanuk cases. They are similar to pelican cases but a bit more refined in the latches.

I also like pelican cases.

I use a Boyt 2 gun case. Very similar to Pelican, heavy duty, wheels. I can't say it would be considered light but it's well built and manageable.

My Cabela's All American Double Long-Gun Case has served well. About 10kg empty. Probably not much lighter than your current one.

Don't forget AirTags (or Android equivalent).

Depends on what firearms you are looking to travel with. If the firearms are of the takedown variety, a Pelican 1700 is quite easy to travel with. They can even be loaded with two rifles quite easily. I've even seen people takedown their traditional bolt action rifles for travel in this manner.

I will normally travel with just one rifle, but add my shooting sticks because they don't fit in my luggage.

@One Day... did it with his Blaser R8 (and two barrels) along with his 470NE double rifle.

Is anyone using negrini cases for air travel? I have a couple for my double and shotgun and I quite like them but can't speak to their durability for overseas trips.

It will be hard to beat the durability of your aluminum case. I have used one for over 20 years and other than a few scratches it's still like new. I looked into lighter cases but to save a little in weight you will be giving up durability and there isn't that much difference in weight.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
