AUSTRIA: Fallow Stags, Wild Boar, & A Touch Of Mozart In Austria

@Red Leg Thank you for taking us along on your adventure, I loved hiking and spending time in Austria when I was stationed in germany in the 80-90's. Looks like we should consider it for a boar hunt at some point. I also Like the "We had to use a wench to get it loaded" My question was it a beer wench in a classic Dirndl dress?:D Cheers:

You mean one of these fetching outfits? While in Salzburg they were having their fall festival that is very similar to Octoberfest in Munich. We had a grand time. Regretably, the truck "winch" was electric powered. It is entirely possible the error was Freudian (we were in Austria after all.)

Question, did your wife clock you for taking that pic?

@Red Leg , were you decked out in a lederhosen?
If you look closely at the first and second pictures I am wearing my "Jagd Stiefelhose aus Leder" (leather hunting boot trousers) by Meindl that I have often hunted in over the last decade. Of course, I am mixing my metaphors a bit by wearing Irish boots (Dubarry), but what the heck, it's an EU thing.

Excellent write up. Just another piece of evidence that the Colonel could take writing lessons from you.

Did you happen to visit my favorite place in Salzburg - Augustiner Halle and Garden?

Regrettably no. Though as you know, finding a glass of wine or a beer in Salzburg is not difficult.

Great story Joe, and fine fine trophies! Congrats

At my age, I am pretty sure she was merely amused.

It’s a sad commentary on our age when the wife just looks at you with that “ whatever makes you feel young again” look.

So true. :(

Not sure how I posted that photo twice - probably double vision.

Great report and congratulations on your three legged boar and superb Fallow buck.
Are you getting the tusks from the boar mounted up as well?
A beautiful part of the world to visit and to hunt in, thank you for sharing your experience.

Yes, I mount boar tusks on a plaque in the European style.

Well done Congratulations and thanks for sharing...it is always great to get to experience the hunting in other countries.

Thanks partner.

Maybe I should have used buckshot on that “charging” stag?!? ;)

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
