Ausie gunsmiths

Thanks very much ,I’ll definitely get onto them…..just one more thing if yous don’t mind……is it up to me to supply the parts ie barrel, sites etc
Cheers

Swans manufacture their own barrels, and I think only fit theirs.
They will fit all other parts supplied by you, or they will procure for you.

With my most recent build I told them the parts I wanted (sights etc) and they ordered them once barrel dimensions were confirmed. Saved ordering wrong sizes.

Have no probs with paying up front for parts….
main concern is finding a smith that has worked on cz/Brno Mauser type receivers and also to replace that awkward safety with 2/3 position safety
Cheers
My latest from Allan/Grant Swan. Built on a CZ550. These are some of the pics from Grant, as soon as it gets to me I'll do a proper write up on it.

Sadly, barrels, fitting, chambering profiling etc are all very expensive in this country. Add in the extra for the safety changes you want, then add in a bit to ensure reliability and I think Bob's estimate will be on the conservative side. I would suggest getting in contact with the main smiths mentioned, and then you'll be in a possition to decide if this is worth it for you. Unfortunately, there aren't too many 'off the shelf' alternatives available.
@Hunter4752001
The last barrel I bought was a stainless steel from MAB in 35 cal 1 in 12 twist No3 profile was $540 and that was 2019 fitting was 400 dollars so not to bad. Add on $ 350 for my Stevens 200 in 270 and you have a semi custom 35 Whelen for less than 1,300 bucks and groups less than an inch with whatever I feed it.

@425SCHADE
Very nice. Did they duplicate the Brno/CZ forward recoil lug?

@Bob Nelson 35Whelen
Sounds like you got a great outcome. I think a lot of people underestimate the Savage/Stevens action. AGNK also wants the safety replaced by a 2/3 position safety, which will add to the cost.

Here is a sample of Rob's work from a simple rebarreling to full blown custom. Maybe @K95 can post a picture of his marlin Rob did as well.

Yes he did on my request. Integral lug/band/sight base.

Sounds like there are a few.

Bob DeVries is Kudu services and I believe he specialises in safari rifles. If he's still working.

Our Bob speaks highly of Rob Spittles obviously.

I think any would be happy for you to provide components of your choice if it's all compatible. Then you will have it all on hand and they just have to find time to fit it.

I think some gunsmith s are building match rifles and are excellent others more traditional building classic or traditional rifles.

Good luck with it.

See final costs for my latest work from Allan Swan Gunsmithing. Very reasonable in my opinion.
The sights are NECG that they ordered for me, so price includes a mark-up, other parts are the integral sight base etc. that Grant manufactured, the dies Grant also manufactured, and postage (rifle +original barrel +dies) is from QLD to NSW.

I'm more than happy with the price and am champing at the bit to give it a run.

Thanks very much 425schade for bringing up that invoice…..
So need to add to that work for
receiver /bolt face conversion from 375 to 404j + 3 position safety….

PS would they discount the GST for “cashie “
Sorry… old habits die hard!

@AGNK
Give Rob a call mate and see what he can do for you. You may be surprised.

My experiences are with Rob Blomfield at Sunshine Coast gunsmithing and Bob DeVries at Kudu gunsmithing. Both do great work on hunting rifles. I’m also using Allan Swan gunsmithing to do my next 458WM build.

Sorry I didn’t realise this was an old thread. My comments are still relevant though.

What open sights are they
All the parts came from NECG. Rear is a Full Moon insert in the Classic rear base.
Front is the Masterpiece Banded ramp with silver bead to suit (also purchased a green fibre optic to try at some point and maybe use when the eyesight is less than best)

Allan Swan Gunsmithing. High quality and very reasonable pricing.
Yes i will second that recommendation, good down to earth people, & they make their own barrels, with realistic time frames & prices in Brisbane QLD. they did my 318 WR & i could not be happier.
