All,

Not sure if this is the right place but if you have been to the NRA Shot Show, NWTF or Harrisburg show, you have probably seen Josh's work. He has worked on a lot of my taxidermy and is overall just a great guy.

Unfortunately, he had a terrible hunting accident on November 23, and I have provided the details from his GoFund me page.

On November 23, 2024, Josh was involved in a tragic hunting accident that has left him fighting for his life. While out doing what he loves most—hunting in the great outdoors—a fellow hunter’s shotgun blast deflected off Josh’s head, resulting in a devastating skull fracture and brain injury. Josh was rushed to Reading Hospital, where emergency surgery was performed immediately to save his life. Surgeons had to remove a large portion of his skull to reduce the swelling in his brain, which was putting intense pressure on vital veins and arteries. The next few days are important, as the swelling is still a concern. The good news is, Josh is fighting hard. He is awake, aware, and showing signs of his usual strength and determination. He still has all his memories up to the moment of the accident, and his long-term memory is intact. He is speaking clearly, thinking logically, and even using his sense of humor to lighten the situation. He has the use of his arms and hands as of now, and we are hopeful that his legs will begin to respond soon as well. However, the road ahead is long and uncertain. Josh has a tough battle to face, and his recovery will require ongoing medical care, physical therapy, and treatment.

If you could keep him in your thoughts and prayers, I would appreciate it. I have also included the GoFund me link that his family has put together.

Enjoy every minute, just a reminder how quickly your life can change and to always practice gun safety.

Dang that sounds rough. Hopefully fellow hunters can pull together for him. Being awake is great. Sounds like a long road to recovery tho. Prayers……
Bruce

Bruce, you are spot on the fact he has his memory is really unbelievable. The human brain is really unbelievable.

My co-worker had a cyst on his brain and the surgery was successful but it has impacted his memory. To the point he doesn't remember directions anywhere, or if he has played a golf course, but can remember a lot of long term details very vividly. 5 months post surgery he is still struggling with short term issues.

Wish him and his family all the best.

Done and prayers also sent.

Prayers for a speedy recovery. Such a tragic accident.

Prayers for a full recovery. I know more than I ever wanted to about brain injuries after my dad had a hemorrhagic stroke 12 years ago. I’m optimistic based on where he is now. The brain is an amazing thing.

His family should look at getting him to to shepherd center in Atlanta once he has stabilized. It is probably the most advanced rehab hospital in the country and they have an amazing traumatic brain injury program. The Craig hospital in Colorado in that same level. I can’t begin to explain how much more advanced this place is than other options. If you have any contact with the family please pass this along.

My primary hunting partner, who is a good bit older than me, took a shotgun blast to the head turkey hunting back in the late 80s or early 90s. It’s actually how he found Jesus. It was a turning point in his life. He made a full recovery.

Wow...sorry to hear this. Prayers for a good recovery. Shotgun wounds are a terrible thing.

So sorry to hear about this. Prayers sent for a quick and full recovery.

most shotgun blasts at close range are fatal, due to horrific tessue damage and blood loss. as a fireman in my younger years i helped recover several people who ended their lives with shotguns and it was very disturbing to those who were involved. a very lucky man. the best for him in his recovery.
