Just reporting the sad news FYI.

An Argentine professional hunter was trampled by an elephant in Namibia’s Otjozondjupa region at the weekend, the police said on Sunday.

According to a police report, Jose Monzalvez, who was in the country for trophy hunting, was attacked and killed by the elephant on Saturday on a private farm in the Kalkfeld district of Otjozondjupa.

Regional police spokesperson Maureen Mbeha told journalists that five trophy hunters – three Namibians and two Argentine nationals – were on a hunting mission for an elephant at the farm.

She said while following a herd of elephants, one of the jumbos spotted them and gave chase – aiming for Monzalvez.

“The deceased was a professional hunter who had a hunting permit with him,” said the official.

She said the hunter’s close relatives have been informed of his death and that an inquest docket has been opened at the Kalkfeld Police Station.

I found out this mornning about this......I was reading the news here in Argetina when this pops up.

I think He was not profesional hunter.....just a hunter in a Ele hunt......the information here says that They were trying to a final approach, when the Ele spot them and inmediatelly charged.....apparently the hunter tried to run and the Ele got him.........

Link with the info in Spanish, this moorning in Argentina......

Yes he was "just" an hunter you are right. This morning (european time) the info was not precise...anyway..
Poor guy.

Thats right......poor guy......Dangerous Game, you take some risk when you go.....!!!!

Sad news, you can't out run an elephant. You have to stand your ground and decide at what distance you feel your safety zone has been broken and shoot.

Terrible news. Just goes to show that we're not hunting Disney characters out here, despite what the anti's want people to believe.

Totally agree! @Alexandro Faria & @Brent in Az
Would much prefer to die with my boots on doing something that I love. Even if it is messy and painful.

OK, we have just establshed that you are quite a bit smarter than me... (n)

So sad for the person and families involved... I know when my time comes it won't be with shells left in my gun!

I hate to see anyone getting killed out hunting. Its just a bad thing all around. It irks me when people say "he died doing what he loves".

There was left handed sarcasm in my original post.

My condolences to the hunters family.

Condolences to the family.

In many ways, the natural instinct is to turn and run. Have to train the mind and run the scenario in your head 1000 times before it happens and then hope for the best because nobody really knows how they will react until they are facing the elephant.

I'm less than 2 months away from my elephant. Thanks for the motivation: today's practice was snap shots at short range.

So sorry to hear the news, tragic!
I lived to tell my story from my lioness charge. Wounded on day 3, charge on day 4 with me winning.

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
