Atlanta and Alabama AH members and certainly anyone else interested, Esoteric Junkie has a great idea! He and I texted each other and here is what we are potentially thinking about and would greatly appreciate people's thinking especially
@Backyardsniper who set up one in KY along with an upcoming one in NC I believe. "A wise man takes wise council." I am not the wise man I am the man looking for advice...lol!!!
I have a 40-acre piece of land, 12.5 acres in fields and the rest in woods. It is in Pine Mountain, GA 31822 zip code. That is 85 miles south of Atlanta to LaGrange GA which is about 20 miles from the Alabama border to Montgomery. (My son went to Auburn.)
Our initial thoughts are the following:
1. Set up targets some inside the woods and some in the fields for a walking shoot.
2. I know an awesome barbecue place that I could get a lunch for us and have tables and chairs for the field to eat.
3. Plenty of room for parking.
4. My farm is easy and very straight forward to get to.
5. This would be a big bore shoot...375 and up certainly any 9.3+ acceptable as an example...our point is this is not a Deer shoot course but one for Africa.
Our questions:
1. How many targets should we have for a good shoot?
2. I am thinking of just blocks of wood with regular targets on them clearly abiding to safety rules of knowing the shots will not travel far beyond.
3. Would love to see if anyone is using the 5 target packages offered on the net of large size Africa animals?...any other target types? If so please direct me to the site.
4. What time of year are people interested in?
If there is interest and successful, this is something we would like to do each year at my farm.
Thoughts and advice please?
