I have a load using 285 grain Norma Oryx that shoots great I am looking at a solid bullet load that shoots to the same or near enough.
Do I try loads with different solids until I get something or find something with the same weight and BC not worrying if the solids are lighter or heavier
What is the way to go

I’d stick with Norma...great ammo....here’s their solid in 9.3x62. Should be pretty close to the Oryx.

I suggest simply purchase some 285 grain solids of your choice and try them out with the same powder / case /primer load that you use for your Oryx bullets, dropping back a couple grains of powder to begin with in case the solids create more pressure. If you work up your new load to the same velocity, trajectory should be close enough to the Oryx bullets. Any small difference will not matter at the range where a solid bullet is appropriate. "BC" or ballistic coefficient is irrelevant in a a situation where solids are called for - deep penetration of very large animals.

Some rifle barrels have twists which are more optimized for the heavier bullets.
For example ... the BRNO ZKK 600 , chambered in 7×57 mm Mauser calibre . It is more optimized for shooting 173 to 175 grain bullets , than 139 to 140 grain bullets .
Since your 9.3×62 mm Mauser calibre rifle shows satisfactory results with the 286 grain Norma Orynx soft point bullets ... I would listen to the other commenters and opt for the 286 grain Norma solid metal covered factory loaded cartridges.

maj khan,
if a 7mm barrel shoots 175 gn bullets well and not 140s, it is not the twist that is the problem.
there is something else wrong.

It shoots them both quite well , Bruce . However , for some reason more accurate results can be had with the heavier bullets in the 160 - 175 grain weight .

Not uncommon, all rifles are an inity unto themselves, your job is to weed out what it likes and doesn't like thru handloading procedure, and bedding..Twist can determine that also, but its only one faction of the process..

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes
Daryl

Hey Steve, This is Steve Washington we met at KMG last year. I am interested in your Winchester. Would love to speak with you about it. I work third shift and I cannot take a phone with me to work. Let me know a good time to call during one of your mornings. My phone is [redacted]. Live in Florida so I have to account for the time difference.
Look forward to hearing from you.

Good day, Slider.

Do you by any chance have any 500NE brass left that you are willing to part ways with?

Best regards,
Boela Bekker.
