Hello everyone!

I have just recently got my hands on a mauser obendorf sporter in 6,5x68s and i need some good reloading data for the calibre.

Thanks in advance Coldswede.

That caliber is a new one on me. Is it anything like a 6.5 x 284 or a 6.5 x 06? Is this considered a "wildcat" cartridge? If so, there may be some forum for it where you can get loading information. Does anyone load commercially for it?

Rws loads it commercially its an old german cartridge. Its a necked down 8x68s.

Its kniven by a few names 6,5x68 schuler, 6,5x68 von hofe express and there might be one more.

Thanks for sharing. I just did a Google search and found the following article on the 6.5 x 68. It does contain some reloading data. Check out this link if you can; http://revivaler.com/the-6-5x68-schuler/

Hope this helps. Maybe some European AH members that have first hand knowledge of this cartridge will reply to your post. Good Luck!!

Today I am very surprised! There was a 6.5 out there that @Shootist43 didn't know about!:whistle::) But you recovered really fast Art. I guess you need to find one of these and put it in the safe!

I understand that it is similar in capacity to the .264 Winchester Magnum and tends to be slightly more efficient BUT ... I suspect that is probably due more to correct barrel dimensions than anything else. N.B. Winchester used two-diameter bullets when they introduced the .264, presumably because of the notorious Yank tendency, going back, at least, to the introduction of the .270 Winchester, for independent barrel makers to make and sell tighter barrels than the big gunmakers who developed new chamberings.

.264 Win-Mag works mit a case capacity of 5,324 cm³ and a pressure of 4300 bar .

6,5x68 works with a case capacity of 5,584 cm³ and a pressure of 4400 bar.

Properly loaded, you can expect a little more power from the 6,5x68.

But I think, there is no animal, that will feel a difference.

We cant get hodgdon powder in Sweden atleast not that i know of but i found some reloading data from a known gianh swedish reloading database. Gonna load a Ladder and see how it performs and if it works out good i will post it.

H4831 is similar to Vihtaviouri N560. Knowing that gives you a place to start anyway. As previously stated take a look at the loading for a 264 Win Mag if the reloading data you are looking at does not specifically show the 6.5 x 68 caliber you are looking for. To be safe you should probably back off a little on the powder and work your way up to a load that shoots well in your rifle. Good Luck!!

My favorite load, 74,0 gr N560 behind 100gr Nosler Partition, CCI250, Case RWS, COL 85,00 mm...

Be carefully, check the loads in the manuals, it's your rifle, your face and your own risk.

How does the nosler partition perform and what do you hunt with yours? :)

...mainly gams,...it´s an impressive performer...

The Nosler Partition was the first of the premium bullets. It functions well at lower velocities. If you are pushing your bullets at 3000 fps I think you need to consider using a different bullet. At 2600 fps a 140 gr Nosler Partition works great out of my 6.5 x 55 on Whitetail deer, hogs and similar size animals like Impala and Blesbok. I'm sure other NP users will tell you the same thing.

Im thinking of shooting roe-deer, red deer, fallow deer, maybe some wild boars and such and i need a good stopping bullet. I want a very good energy transfer. Most of the hunting will be Walk and stalk or hide hunting so i prefer if the animal goes down and stays there.

Hallo Marius- do you have possibilities for stags in September during the roar? Where are your hunting areas in Romania?

Love your rifle! I'm needing a heavier rifle for Africa. Sold my .375 Dakota Safari several trips ago. Would you have any interest in a trade of some sort involving the custom 338/06 I have listed here on the site ( I have some room on my asking price. I also have a large quantity of the reloading components and new Redding dies as well as a box of A-Square Dead Tough ammo.
