I’ve got my heart set on a 450 #2 . But with the scarcity of ammo and components do you think the 470 would be the better route? I would love a Birmingham boxlock in 450#2. But I see some Searcy 470s floating around that look like a lot of gun for the money.

I think you will have trouble finding brass and dies for the 450 #2. Unless you really have your heart set on that chambering, the 470 is a much better option.

If it's just a matter of caliber, 470 Nitro Express cartridges are certainly more available than 450 N°2 Nitro Express cartridges. Unfortunately, when you buy a rifle because you particularly like it and not from a practical point of view, you have to accept its caliber, with all the disadvantages that can be associated with it. Noted in passing, I also prefer an old classic double rifle to one of a more modern make.

.470 NE is by far the easiest..but there is brass out there..

Be careful of hunting Chewore South, the area has been decimated.....

Curious about this. I hunted Chewore South with D&Y in September and they did tell me it was there last hunt there.

Which outfits shot it out?
