458 SOCOM AR

I picked up a 458 SOCOM a few years back wanting to have a fun round. While yes it is fun and very effective on most animal in NA. Just never shot it much.

So Time to let it go to a new owner. Included is a Riton Red dot on the rifle, dies and a bag of 100 new cases.

Do you know or can you tell who's upper it is or was it bought as an assembled rifle and from who?

Side charging handle and hand guard and flash suppressor all look like Bear Creek Arsenal…

FWIW BCA gets mixed reviews.. but my BCA 458 socom ran well.. and I’ve known 2 other guys (personal friends and hunting buddies) that run BCA 458 socom guns that run well… and both of my AR10’s in 308 are BCA… I’ve personally been very happy with them..

The only problem I’ve ever had was a firing pin that broke in one of my AR10’s… I called BCA to order a new one.. they refused to take my money and sent me a new one at no charge…

Agree with @mdwest BCA, my 458 SOCOM AR is also wearing a BCA upper and BCG and I love it. It is a fun round to play with Subsonic and with 325 gr flex tip Hornady bullets. Buy a brass catcher though, there isn’t many deals out there on brass!

the 458 SOCOM subsonic, suppresseed was a hog hammer out to about 100 yards... hit the pig and it was a bang-flop every single time... 150 really wasnt a problem with supersonic ammo

The only reason I got rid of mine was I was just supporting way too many calibers at the reloading bench and thought I needed to consolidate some.. So I turned my 308 AR10's into "pig guns".. and let the 458 SOCOM go...

I have to admit I sort of regret it though...

and I still have a 458 suppressor.. but no big bore to mount it to anymore lol..

I wasnt sure if it was a BCA, Tromix or like mine, a Moriarti or another brand. I have an AR10 .243 BCA that I'm still trying to get to "work right". Having issues with it cycling (mainly seating the next round completely) and sometimes it likes to eject the mag for no apparent reason.
The .458 is the first gun I've ever shot that made "movie sized" holes in stuff.
I've also got a big can to put on it, but that makes it pretty long and front heavy.

Call BCA... They were super good to me over the firing pin issue... and AR10's are notoriously finicky feeders no matter the manufacturer (im assuming your 243 is on an AR10 receiver).. Im betting they will ask you to ship it to them and they'll analyze the problem and I'd guess "fix" it for you at no cost...

I've heard they're pretty good. I'll give it another range day and see what happens. I've tweaked a few things so hopefully it may have resolved them but only the firing range can tell.

Its hard to get the SOCOM "quiet"... but.. I definitely appreciated the noise reduction the YHM R45 I put on it provided..

the big benefit was recoil reduction.. without the can, launching multiple rounds at a sounder quickly really wasnt an option.. in a fairly light AR platform the SOCOM produces some pretty stout recoil...

but with the suppressor attached I was able to get 3-5 accurate shots off on a sounder pretty easily (depending on how fast they reacted to the first shot and how quick they started scrambling.. the little R45 can was a game changer for me..

The good news on the SOCOM is its not super gas finicky like an AR10 can be with a suppressor... it was hell getting my AR10 tuned with a can attached... with the SOCOM I literally didnt have to change a thing.. It ran reliably with the can.. and ran equally realibly with the can attached (although it was a little over gassed.. I just didnt see a reason to go tinkering with it since it ran so well)..

Yep. It’s a good choice. AR15 platform, not too finicky, great big honkin’ holes. As a management tool, a guy could do a lot worse for a lot more money.
