Well I've received my 375 h&h whitworth and begun setting it up.
I don't have my scope yet but impatient to try it I'm at the range now.
I'd never fired anything this big so in anticipation of severe recoil I drilled and added a mercury recoil reducer myself and a slip on limbsaver pad. Only $20 at wal mart btw.

I'm not sure the weight but the scope and warne rings will add another pound when installed.
As it turns out I was pleasantly surprised by far less recoil than I expected.
I only fired offhand my first time landing 4 shots in about 4" at 50 yards. Not great but I'm happy considering my initial fears.
As it turns out the open sights hit 10 inches left and 8 high at that distance. I'm sure I can drift them some but will likely need a higher front to bring it down.
Ammo was 300gr Armscor with nosler accubonds.
More reports when the scope is installed
Special thank you to @Mr. Zorg Zorg for providing me with a trigger adjustment download. Although not perfect it's far better than it was. Will still likely replace at a later date.

Nice rifle! I love my .375 Whitworth! I too don’t have a scope on it yet, but really enjoy shooting it with the express sights. That slip on Limbsaver works wonders taming recoil on my rifle too!

When you go slow with CRF, It's easier to retrieve your brass for reloading. It'll just fall out of the action onto the bench, that's normal.
When I went slow it didn't release from the bolt.
I don't believe this rifle has barely been fired before. Everything is really tight
Of course I'm not used to such a long pull either

The more you work that action the slicker it will become. Make up four or five inert (dummy) rounds and cycle them through the action. Some rifles have required a little Autosol or fine valve grinding paste but try it dry for a while before going to these extremes.

I'm going to order some snap caps to use

Yep, it just sounds like it needs some usage to break it in.
Wade, if you’re not reloading yet, I could put you some dummies together to use. Let me know if you want some.

Thank you sir,
I've already ordered a pair of snap caps so should be ok with those.
Working the action and dry fire practice.
But I truly appreciate the offer.
I have everything I need to reload but it's currently packed in a shed with nowhere to set up.
Due to current marital situation.... or lack thereof

I feel ya. My reloading stuff is buried in my garage somewhere, and the office and............ well moving sucks!

Just needs some working of the parts. When I got mine 35 years ago, I spent some time in front of the telly working the bolt back and forth with just oil. Ejection is lethargic at low force. At high force ejection is very positive, still .
Rear express standing blade is meant to be dialed in with preferred load by filing the notch. Establish an accurate load before messing with the sights. Use the scope to make that determination. (y)

Well in my enthusiasm to try more bullets and having birthday discount at midway. I ordered a few but accidentally ordered 1 box of 375 Ruger 250gr gmx by accident. Gonna try to cancel in the morning but if I can't I may have a box for sale here soon.

To smooth up the cocking portion of the loading cycle without using snap caps I have found that if I depress the trigger with one hand while the other lowers the bolt handle it won't damage the firing pin ala dry firing, but you still get the sear on striker smoothing.

Don’t worry about slow just make sure everything works well when you work the bolt very hard. In case you get in a DG situation you want to have abused the rifle and made sure it works when under pressure.
This is a very nice looking setup! I would probably go with a permanently installed recoil pad and try replacing that mercury with an Edwards recoil reducer. It works well and weighs nothing.
Best of luck.
Philip

Worked hard everything works perfectly. My snap caps arrived last night so I'll be running those through frequently also.
Limbsaver has a pre fit pad that appears to be within a few thousands all the way around so I may try that.
Lastly in my initial recoil concerns I installed a full 1 pound reducer. It balances right in the middle with it but may replace it later. Recoil was far less than I anticipated.

Back After a Long Time – Hello Again!

Hi everyone,

I’ve been a member since 2015 but haven’t been active since 2017. Life got busy, especially with building my second business. Still, I’ve kept my passion for hunting and followed things from afar. Now that I have more time, I’m excited to reconnect, contribute, and be part of the community again.

All the best,
ANDY

I'd like a bag of 100. I could actually pick it up since I'm in North Irving, but if you prefer, shipping it is fine.
