OK, OK, I know how most of you feel about brakes. But I am older than dirt and have not shot anything that large in probably 50 years. So I would like a little help in the recoil department until I get used to it.

My problem is I have searched a good bit without finding a brake for a 375 rifle. I am picking up my new to me M70 Classic Super Express either tomorrow or Friday. If anyone has information on where I can order a brake at a reasonable price please let me know. BTW, I believe it is threaded

Really just try it out first. It’s not that bad. Around the same as pulling the trigger twice on a 12g. Just a nice rolling push that puts a smile on your dial. Took my next door neighbour out on his 80th birthday for a few shots just for a laugh. He went through around 10 to 15 shots of PPU ammo no worries made his day.

I am 82 and just getting over some health issues so I am not in the best physical shape. The barrel is already threaded so it's not a big deal to screw a brake on it. If I could find one. Hanging out on AH is why I bought the M70. You guys are dangerous to my finances. ;-) And I may end up doing as you say.

I disagree completely. Put a break on your rifle if you want to. It’s your rifle and I assume your safari. Your PH will or should have hearing protection on. If installing a break on your gun reduces the change of any flinch or improves your enjoyment of using the rifle in its intended way, then that is the best outcome. I hunt Africa, shoot long range, and have breaks on several large bore rifles, including my 375 H&H. You do what is best for you and good luck in Africa.

MAGNA Port will do the job for you and the heck with the comments. It’s your rifle and your hunt. Forget the sideline interference. Just make sure the brake can be removed if YOU want at some future time.
Good luck and good choice.

Don't do it.

A 375 muzzle brake is a set of shooting sticks. Never shoot it off a bench.

My 9 year old son took his 375hh to africa and shot all manner of game. There is absolutely no reason you cannot handle the recoil from one if shooting off sticks. It's 38 pounds of recoil.

P.S.- If you're a hand loader, you can make loads using imr4041 and a 260gr nosler accubond or partition and bring the recoil down to about 31lbs. You can then add a better pad or even a recoil reducer to further lower it. A scope will also reduce recoil.

In conclusion, don't put a muzzle brake on such a weapon. It's obnoxious. You're going to be the a-hole at the range or on the hunt deafening everyone near you. There's a better way.

Get one of these and call it a day, they have two types get the one for the magnum. The 375 H&H does not have a punishing recoil: it's more of a good push.

Put a brake on it! I have 2 .375's. One with brake, one without. The recoil difference on the one without is very noticeable, even though it weighs several pounds more than the braked rifle.

What about a suppressor instead? I know its difficult Stateside.....
In January it will become a little easier.. that’s when the $200 fee and tax stamp goes away… although there will still be registration paperwork..

I’m generally speaking not a fan of brakes… largely for the reasons most commonly cited here on AH.. buffoons at the range blasting away with brakes on things like AR15’s en masse, blowing everyone’s ear pro off their heads… and knowing a PH is likely going to be standing in direct line with the brakes blast pattern and going to take the full brunt of every shot…

I am slowly becoming a convert though… a 300 PRC I bought a couple of years ago came with a brake.. my initial thoughts were to throw a suppressor on the gun… but after the first range session I was honestly so impressed with the brake I had second thoughts.. it reduced the PRC’s recoil to roughly 308 levels and made the gun a pleasure to shoot.. and I avoid throwing an additional 6” of steel out on the end of what is already a very long rifle by sticking with the brake and not installing a suppressor…

So now.. I just try to be considerate at the range.. I’m not rapid firing with a bolt actioned PRC.. and I sit on the far end, giving everyone else as much space as possible… and it’s not an “Africa” gun for me… so the PH problem is moot…

I’m torn on a 375… I like suppressors and own/use a few and am in the market for another right now… but like the 300 PRC, I don’t know if I want to strap another 6-8” of length onto an already long gun.. I definitely don’t want to do that if I’m planning any sort of DG hunting with the rifle…

But on the other hand.. it’s almost certainly a plan to use this rifle in Africa.. or with a guide somewhere like AK.. if that’s the case.. the guide/PH are a real concern…

Tough problem to solve honestly..

The OP asked about sources for muzzle brakes not commentary on whether or not he should get one. That decision has been made. Anecdotal tales of children and old timers successfully shooting 375 aren’t relevant. The OP knows his limits and wants a muzzle brake. Why are some of you giving him crap about it? He’s not going hunting/shooting with you. Why do you care what someone else chooses for their hunt?

I do not understand the antagonism some folks have towards muzzle brakes. Don’t like them? Don’t use them but let others make their own choices. FTR, the only rifle I own that has a brake is a Ruger Guide Gun and I don’t use the brake. I use the thread protector instead. I’m not pro muzzle brake. I’m anti berating others for equipment choices they make.

A little outside my budget. But thanks for the suggestion.
You'll be shunned by everyone at the range and your guide/PH. Bystanders will be much more impacted than the shooter. If you can't afford a $600 can, how are you paying for DG?

gentrycustom.com HAVE THEIR "QUITE BRAKE" ON ALMOST EVERYTHING WE GOT INCLUDING A .375H&H THEY WILL MAKE WHAT YOU WANT.

RSL,

I have several 5/8X24 brakes I've taken off rifles over the years in order to put suppressor mounts on. I'd be happy to mail you one if you'll PM me your address.

I'm not a brake guy, but would rather see them get used than sit on my work bench for years at a time.

1. I find that the most damaging part of recoil is the mental anticipation of it, if you are convinced the rifle will beat you up before pulling the trigger - it will.

2. Make sure the rifle has the correct length of pull for you.

3. Get a Kickeez recoil pad installed(to the correct length)

Kickeez is my go to brand these days for pretty much everything... I used to be a dyed in the wool pachmyer decellerator guy.. but I find the kickeez pads a whole lot easier to install / grind to fit.. and theyre MUCH softer and better at absorbing recoil for sure..

Hello! I saw your post from last year about a missing crate from your hunt in Moz. I am curious how that all turned out? We (my fiancé and I) also hunted in Moz in 2024 and the trophies are being shipped with Hunters Services Limitada. We have some concerns on whether we will get the trophies home or not. May I ask who you hunted with?
