375 H&H Muzzle Brake?

I have a HyperTac muzzle brake from Precision Armament for my 375H&H. It is SKU #AO4. Currently, it is 179.99.

When I want to go fire off some rounds, I screw on the muzzle brake and enjoy shooting my gun, when I go to hunt, I take off the muzzle brake and put on the threaded cap.

If you physically need to use a muzzle brake, then use a muzzle brake. I have to imagine as badly as PH's hate the things, they would rather have your hunting dollars than not.

no brake. practice with the rifle to get comfortable. when u are “in battle” u dont feel any recoil anyway. everyone in your hunting party wil appreciate it.

my humble 2 cents.

I will admit that 5 of my rifles have threaded barrels. My custom 300 Rum was built with a muzzle brake, it stays on. I hunt it and shoot it that way. My custom LH .22-250 has a cute little radial brake and it was built that way. Both those rifles have match ammo loaded for them and they both shoot longer distances accurately, so I don’t screw with them.

I had my .243 and 7MM REM MAG threaded for suppressors. No muzzle brake on either of those.

Now the best part is, my 450 Dakota has a factory brake! I’ve shot it twice without it. Pretty good push…

I don’t have a brake on my .375 H&H. I don’t find the recoil to be significant even though the rifle is relatively light…

I’m certain I would not have a muzzle brake put on my 450 Dakota had I spec’d it.

You do what's best for you. I'm in my mid 70s and 100% military disabled. I have my rifles modified in ways I can continue to hunt. You set your rifle up so you can shoot safely and screw what it looks like to others. a muzzle brake really reduces recoil but really makes the report a lot louder.....but that's why you wear ear protection. Hunt and shoot smart, not hard at your age and you can hunt and hunt and hunt

The OP asked about sources for muzzle brakes not commentary on whether or not he should get one. That decision has been made. Anecdotal tales of children and old timers successfully shooting 375 aren’t relevant. The OP knows his limits and wants a muzzle brake. Why are some of you giving him crap about it? He’s not going hunting/shooting with you. Why do you care what someone else chooses for their hunt?

I do not understand the antagonism some folks have towards muzzle brakes. Don’t like them? Don’t use them but let others make their own choices. FTR, the only rifle I own that has a brake is a Ruger Guide Gun and I don’t use the brake. I use the thread protector instead. I’m not pro muzzle brake. I’m anti berating others for equipment choices they make.
I agree with you 100%.

FWIW. I agree with you. I have muzzle brakes on pretty much everything. Reduction in recoil also helps you see your shots better and get back on target quicker. Seems like that could be a good thing

I have used lots of different brakes. I don't see a lot of difference between radial brakes from one manufacturer to another. I have been using the harrells for the last few years and have been happy with them. The radial's are quieter but a little less effective. The tactical are more effective but a lot louder

They cost less than $60. You can buy them in different diameters to help match your barrel and you can get them in 5/8x24. You have bore them to 20 thousands over the caliber.

I wear ear muffs when I am at the bench or practicing but I like these electronic ear buds when I hunt - they can be turned up to help you hear and go quiet when you shoot. They don't interfere with creek weld. On sale for $99 at midwayusa

OK, OK, I know how most of you feel about brakes. But I am older than dirt and have not shot anything that large in probably 50 years. So I would like a little help in the recoil department until I get used to it.

My problem is I have searched a good bit without finding a brake for a 375 rifle. I am picking up my new to me M70 Classic Super Express either tomorrow or Friday. If anyone has information on where I can order a brake at a reasonable price please let me know. BTW, I believe it is threaded

Good afternoon, sir-

Look these guys up:

There are many videos online demonstrating their HuDu Muzzle Brake. Absolutely unbelievable at mitigating recoil. One of Andy Welshan's demonstrations is firing a .300WinMag off of his chin. You simply cannot believe it until you feel it (or rather, DON'T) for yourself.

In fact, here is a video review:

I have shot these on both AR15s and an M4. Granted, a 5.56 does not generate hardly any recoil whatsoever, but the dot/retical/iron sights simply stays put after the shot breaks due to how effective this device is.

I don't have any vested interest in this company, other than the fact that they have an incredible product, at a reasonable price. And they are pretty good machinists and gunsmiths, too. In fact, Andy has done all the work on my .375...installing a 3-position safety, a trigger job, sights, and a barrel band.

Best of luck in your search!

I would give a good look at the Gentry "quiet" brake. He will custom machine it to your barrel diameter, no need to send rifle in if its already threaded.

I am back, sort of...! Tired from my trip yesterday. But it was good to get home. I was notified this morning that my M70 had arrived at my LGS. So I went up there to hopefully pick it up. I say hopefully because the ATF has always delayed my approval. Well, they did so again. So, I have to wait until 9/5 to retrieve it. I did get to look it over and handle it while I was at the store.
It's way nicer than the sellers description portrayed it to be. And nicer than I expected. I am very happy in that regard. So the wait begins.

In regard to the muzzle brake, I want to say thanks to all who defended my original post. It is overwhelming. Actually the number of responses is overwhelming. I would like to address a couple of things from my end.

I usually shoot alone in the desert. There are a few spots I use. So I am not blowing people's ear drums at the range with a brake.

My chances of going to Africa are dependent upon my physical recovery. I would say less than 50% but I am trying to prepare if it should happen.

I plan to practice shooting off of sticks as often as possible.

I appreciate everyone's comments and suggestions. Especially the offers of sending me a brake. What a great group of guys. Also thanks for the links to suppliers of brakes. I will be checking them out.

Thanks to everyone, Stan

I have two rifles with brakes, a 28 Nosler and a .375 H&H. Both are light rifles and a bit punchy and snappy without brakes. Both are used generally in solo or unguided hunts. I use quality in the ear hearing protection while hunting, brake or not. It astounds me more hunters and PHs/guides dont, it is 2025 and there are lots of good options to protect your hearing, braked rifles or not. Even a rifle without a brake can really ring the ears of someone standing to the side of the shooter. Nice looking rifle !!

Here is a pic of my Gentry brake on my .28 Nosler. Gentry will turn the brake to blend in with your barrel diameter. This rifle has a slim barrel, so brake is larger in diameter but still looks nice in my opinion.

And here is my braked .375 H&H. It is a Remington Custom Shop KS Mountain rifle and is light with blind magazine and McMillan stock. I am not sure what brake it is, I bought the rifle with it installed, but believe it may be a Gentry as well.

Hello! I saw your post from last year about a missing crate from your hunt in Moz. I am curious how that all turned out? We (my fiancé and I) also hunted in Moz in 2024 and the trophies are being shipped with Hunters Services Limitada. We have some concerns on whether we will get the trophies home or not. May I ask who you hunted with?
