17' King Cobra

Caught a Cobra when I was training with the Royal Thai Army. Of course, the NCO who was teaching the class whispered to me "Mai Pen Lai (No Worries) This snake is drunk".

That calls for a 12 gauge and 2 rounds of #6 shoot.

I knew a guy growing up who was a Green Beret in Korea and Vietnam. He said he was in the back of a deuce and a half in Vietnam and had a king cobra look him straight in the eyes. He didn’t take any measurements…..
That would be a big snake……

Some guys like to play with death
His channel is a hoot to watch. It is also interesting in watching the personalities of the snakes that he handles. Kevin in the video above is about as docile as a puppy dog while he is being handled, even at feeding time. Now his other king Justina is a handful. She wants nothing to do with being handled and is constantly on the move coming back over her body towards the handler.

But it is as is placed in the disclaimer, he is a trained handler of deadly snakes. He knows their habits and dispositions. Even when he handles his black mamba you can tell that he knows what he is doing as he is watching the head and body movements of the snake.

Now even with all his experience, he did get tagged by a cobra on a finger while he was in India. If I remember right he lost the tip of that finger to the bite.

Everyone will get careless at some point, there was a world renowned herpetologist that was cataloging snakes on Central America and was bitten by a small viper and he never made it out of the jungle.
I believe his name was Kozloski. He had tons of experience handling deadly snakes but that one mistake cost him his life.
I believe these guys do educate people but they also get a lot of people bitten.

I saw the video on that guy when he got bit

I rented a boat slip from a RSA expatriate who moved to Texas , cool guy! But he wore sunglasses everywhere even at night, one night while working on the boat he dropped by to check who was there, and we had a drink or two of rum , I asked him what was up with the sunglasses? He said a cobra had spit in his eyes when he was in RSA
And had made him very very sensitive to any type of light ,
I hate snakes but usually give them a pass unless they’re in the barn or near the house or get in the boat to nest up

I had a friend that had a cape cobra and a pair of gaboon vipers. The cobra was a crafty SOB, it would escape its tank every now and again. This guy was a paraplegic so he would call me to catch the damn thing and put it up.
The last time it escaped I chased it into his attic and couldn’t find it. That night we had an exceptional cold snap and I found it a month later frozen to death thank god.
The gaboons just laid there like slugs but I would’ve loved to have one of those things mounted. Ran into a wild gaboon in Mozambique and we just allowed it to go on his way as we went ours.
Wondering how it is legal to import Gaboons, special permit or pirate them, side note I deceased my 2nd western diamond back in 4 days on the dirt road we travel , he stuck at my truck as i drove by.! They dont get much bigger than 3 ,3 1/2 feet here a 6000 ft.

Not sure of the legalities involved. My friends father was the lead herpetologist at Auburn, he may have gotten the snakes for him.

Captive bred Gaboons are widely available. A Gaboon gives birth to +/- 40 babies, so they are prolific. Captive bred and born baby Gaboons go for around $300.

I like snakes but would never keep a venomous reptile. You only need to slip up once.

One of my favorite YouTubers has a couple good videos on king cobras and gaboon vipers.

Short version is you really don’t want either. ;)

I want to have a cobra mounted in Africa, hood expanded and ready to strike. I want it to be the first thing those yahoo inspectors see! They would probably confiscate the crate but it might be worth it to get a little payback on some of the grief they have inflicted on some hunters.

Came out of my pond, did not appear friendly:
