Washington man jailed for Ivory sales

Insanity. New York recently destroyed hundreds of antique and irreplaceable ivory works of art. It is the book burning of the millennial age. Or more correctly, like ISIS destroying Roman and Greek antiquities in Syria.

Good thing they're going to put this 72 year old criminal in jail......good grief

Is Chickenshit one or two words? I’m pretty sure this 72 year old man that has been collecting these things for decades is no more than an example being made by the state! At 72 years old I would get out of my 15 days in jail and promptly go burn down everyone’s house that had anything to do with my case.
I own things from WW2 but I’m definitely not a Nazi SS, no more than owning a 7.5 French MAS makes me French. It is called collecting and at 35-150 dollars a piece this guy is not a kingpin in Ivory poaching. The world has gone completely batshit crazy!
Fish and Game should spend taxpayers dollars trying to catch the A-holes that are out there shooting deer and elk and cutting the heads off while the rest goes to rot rather than busting the balls of some old man selling off his trinkets.

A world gone mad. I guess one better not sell old piano keys.

About 45 minutes south of me. Thanks to our uber libtard of a gov, Jay Inslee, a tardo if ever there was one. This is just more libtard insanity from our "friends" on the left. Idiots, all of them.

Not a warning, no education. Biggest fine, confiscation of his other property and jail time. o_O

Absolutely nuts.

They must be proud of that conviction. Getting such a world class criminal mastermind off the streets.

Wonder how many antiques/antiquities, where ivory is present, that Bill and Melinda Gates own? Wonder if Fish and Wildlife would go into their house and confiscate items?

My brother is a bagpiper and lots of pipe sets have real ivory on the chanter and drones. He sold his ivory sets and now just has faux ivory on them. Ridiculous!

There are getting to be more and more states I will never venture in to and never spend a penny there. I just put Washington on that ever expanding list.

I have no doubt if you could smoke ivory, it'd be legal.

The weather up there must be turning their sick minds to mush. Too much moisture in the air is dissolving what smidgin of cranial acuity they might have had. Next thing you know they'll have the state gestapo raiding everyone's homes hoping to manufacture a way to screw with them.

You mean much like this impeachment hearing? Lol

No use simply bitching, these things only happen because the population lets it happen. Why are there no protests about this? Why are the elected officials behind this still in office? If the American Colonialists of the 1700's were like today's population, America would still be a British possession (and not in a good way). If every hunter, shooter, collector or lover of freedom got off their backside and voted, wrote to elected officials, demonstrated, ran for office etc the zealots pushing these measures would be swept away.

I agree completely with your first sentence.

You are not from America. While I understand your sentiments and agree with them in part, there may be a few intricacies in American politics that may seem odd to some foreigners.

The following map shows a rough breakdown of states political leanings. The article above relates to the NW part of the most NW state on this map. Washington has the right to make their own laws and to enforce those laws. That is what was done in this case, regardless of how bad those laws are.

Your last sentence is wrong. There are not enough hunters in Washington to override the decisions of the elected officials in the greater Sea-Tac area.

Your statement could be easily recast to say, if Australian's had stood up for their gun rights during the time surrounding Port Arthur, they would still have most of their firearms today.

Entirely agree.

It still p*** me off that following the 1997 gun bans hundreds of thousands of affected firearm owners still voted for the politicians that did it to them. As a result, the politicians behind the bans didn't suffer electoral consequences. Thus encouraged, they introduce further bans in 2003. Compare that to the situation in NSW when the Unsworth Government brought in draconian anti gun laws and was thrown out in a landslide defeat. As a consequence no NSW politician was willing to advocate gun law changes for the next decade.

Most elections are determined by a very small margin. In general firearm owners are not an absolute majority, however almost all are of voting age and eligible. They represent a significant percentage of the electorate. If the general vote is of the order 47% vs 53% per candidate then 10-15% of the population changing their vote will change the outcome.

Absolutely correct. Apathy is the biggest reason this stupidity passes. So many people don't get out and vote, figuring their one vote won't count--but it does. Sometimes that one vote can make all the difference. Your NSW example is a good example of this. People voted and change was made.
We hunters and firearms owners are guilty of much the same. Many don't care because "They're not after my guns. I don't have XYZ". Maybe not yet but unless we start fighting real hard it is going to happen.

Very sad really.
