I’m rather fond of my .300H&H but I see which way the wind blows.
It’s becoming harder to find brass every year, I’m afraid that the day will come when those of us who have .300H&H rifles will have to make a plan…
What would your plan be when it comes to it?
Rebarrel? Make brass from something else perhaps by necking down .375 brass?

Bruce Bertram still doing plenty of cases.

The distributor in Canada is

I sadly think it is because factory rifles aren’t being chambered in it anymore, but I think it’s got a lot of time to go though. Still a few ammo options available.
I got an extremely good deal here on I think 8 boxes of Hornady’s ammo a few years ago, then I bought another 5 boxes of Accubonds from Pendleton, so even I can’t buy ammo I’ll have plenty of brass for the limited amount I shoot mine now.

@ Kudu…
Making 300H&H brass from 375H&H is an easy process.
- Anneal the brass up to the point where the shoulder will start.
- Lube the brass with Imperial Die Wax
- Run it through the 300H&H FL die.
- Trim to length.
- Trim the necks to the correct thickness if needed.

We could find a way to make brass, and worst case you’d still get it from a specialty company even if it was just seasonal.
I hope they don’t stop because I’ve yet to aquire a 300 H&H yet!

He still has more than two boxes (above 40 rounds) of 220Gr Western Super X Silver Tips (the batch from Winchester’s final 1982 production line before they ceased loading for this caliber). And the ammunition is firing reliably. The Winchester “WW Super” head stamped brass cases are excellent for hand loading.

Amongst currently produced factory loads, only Nosler is making ammunition (180Gr AccuBonds). But it’s great stuff.

With my 300 chambered in a No 1, I have plenty of rounds to see me through.

People are loading for calibers that haven’t been produced in 70 years. If there is a piece of brass that share a case head size(and for 300H&H there are plenty) someone is making brass. With the right set of dies, tools, and know how you can load anything. For those without that, they make credit cards.

The 300H&H has been dying slowly since 1963 when the 300WM came out. Which is ironic because they are both based on the 375H&H and that could be the saving grace.

Fact is that the WM is more popular in the US than the H&H, and that it makes up a huge portion of the firearms market. But the H&H isn’t going anywhere.

With over 100 years of being in production, the H&H has a place on ammunition shelves, even if it’s not a huge one. Not bad considering how crowded the .30 caliber market is.

I’d like to see where some of the current.30 caliber wiz bangs will be in 100 years. Looking at you 300RUM, 300WSM, 300SAUM, 30-378WBY, 308NORMA, 300DAKOTA, 300RCM, 30NOSLER…and yes, even the 300PRC.

@KoedoePoesPienk If you like the rifle and cartridge just rebarrel it and continue being happy. I can write volumes on decisions I've made about buying, building, and refurbishing rifles. (Notice I didn't include sellling.) Point is don't look beyond your happiness.

Unless you shoot it everyday for target practice, you will have enough ammunition to last your lifetime. Don't over think it.

It will never truly die. Luxury guns will always be made in 300HH because it is an excellent feeder and is long throated for heavy-for-caliber bullets.

When brass gets pricey in a hypothetical, you can form brass from 375HH. Same story if you think 458WM goes extinct, which it won't either.

But if a 300 Creedmoor ever comes out..........look out!

Where can I purchase a copy of your autobiography? I’d love to read it, always enjoy your posts on here.

HSN is currently making a couple loads for the 300 H&H. I'm taking my Ruger No1 this year for deer
I’ve shot a few WT’s with mine. You sure need to pick your shots carefully.
I shot a small buck at 30metres one time, bullet exited on the offside shoulder.
Could stick my fist through the exit hole.

Thank you for the LIKE on my old post. It brought back memories as I lost her a year and a half ago, at 18+ years.
