Yes, …… or, if you’re going to can do it, a two rifle safari. One rifle dedicated to PG, the other to DG.
That will be next July - Buffalo and PG with my 470 and 338 win mag tagging along. This is for the future one man army set up :)

Personally for the 375 I am a Leupold man as most know. I prefer the VX5 2-10x42 with FireDot just incase I need it. That scope has served me well for the 5 safaris that rifle has been on. I have taken animals from 40 yards to a Gemsbok at 230yards.
This x 2. @Mark Biggerstaff is wise and correct on this and many other things. This is the scope I have on my 416 Rem, two 375 H&H and a 9.3x62. Have served me very well.

The VX6 2-12x42 with firedot is what just took 10 animals in Namibia. Shots ranged from 35 yards to 300 yards on a cull blue wildebeest that we could not get any closer too with a spooky herd. I shoot .375 Ruger in a Ruger Alaskan. 270gr TSX at 2714 FPS at around 56,000 PSI is where the harmonic node worked out. The Custom Dial System is a jewel. I have the VX6 1-6x24 with firedot and CDS also - just thought I might use/want a little more magnification in Namibia (and I was right). The 1-6x24 could have gotten the job done too, but the 2-12x42 was more better in this case.

Yes, one must re-set their scope after an engagement to 2X, or you will be looking through the soda straw. Light gathering on the 42mm objective got me one hell of a Hartebeest at the very end of the day. The 1-6x24 would have lost him in the quickly diminishing daylight.

Leupolds are generally not pigs for weight and they have a 4" eyebox. The VX5s are good enough for me, but I snag VX6s when on sale here on the board.

PH struggled to name better value for the money than Leupolds. Retired CPT pay does not want to encounter Swaro or Zeiss prices, and Leupold gives a VERY generous discount to documented veterans.

The Trijicons are more durable, and I have some, but the Leupold Firedot is brighter during the middle of the day. I put the Trijicons on go to war rifles.

No DG - I hunted 5 trophies for 1/2 the cost of a buff - I want more stalking and shooting vs. one animal.

As for scopes, my favorite brand is Schmidt & Bender and my choice for a combination rifle would be either the 1.25-4x or the 2.5-10x, depending on how close the DG or how far the PG was expected.
You have a point. Just for curiosity sake I was looking at some S&B scopes - one of them read

Schmidt Bender 1-8x24 PM II ShortDot Dual CC MDR-T6 ST LT MTC / ST LT ZC 0.1 mrad cw Black

Holy moly... I will need a interpreter just to understand what the heck it means let alone buy one :):)

I agree with @mark-hunter about limiting yourself to a 1-6x. It’s good for DG and larger PG within the parameters of the .375. However, a steinbok at 200 would be a tough target. I encountered a young coyote trotting along at 100yds with a 9.3x62 topped with a 1-6x cranked to 6x. If it had been much farther, I don’t know if I could have acquired the target.
IMO, Something with a higher magnification would be good.. Trijicon makes a 1-8x and a 2.5-12x. Leupold a 2-10x. Swarovski a 1.7-10x.
I’ve got a 2-10 Trijicon Credo but the parallax is fixed.

It was cumbersome on my Ruger 375 but maybe a better mount,( or bolt adjustments), would have helped?

Bolt looks a little too close

Whatever one you choose, make it a Leupold. They work great and when they don't for whatever the reason for as long as you have it Leupold will fix it or replace it and do it with no questions asked. I have been hunting for over 65 years and except for one that was on a used rifle when I was 15, the only scope I have ever used for long range and short range is a Leupold Gold-ring. I never use them as binoculars just scope. And, they work.

Go find what looks good in your eyes and fits your wallet ability.
1x6 with reticle and red dot works for me, used at 20 yds all the way to 278 yds of harvested African animals. I thru up a bunch of glass to find what seemed right.
Find something you will feel good about.

The Leupold VX6 2-12 x 42 with the Firedot reticle served me well for my Winchester model 70 375 HH on a recent safari in Zimbabwe. If interested, I would suggest visiting with Mark Biggerstaff, who is active on this forum, for availability and pricing.

I have a huskemaw 1-6 with an illuminated reticle on mine. I love it. Having the capability to dial a longer range for plains game is great but the low magnification and lighted dot are great for DG. I’ve taken everything from a genet to a giraffe with it. And everything in between, leopard, buffalo, bears.

I have the Trijicon 1-6x24 with a Duplex reticle, and it has served well on my 375 H&H and three safaris. There was one instance at the Eastern Cape in which I wished I had a bit more magnification, but I managed.

I think forum prohibits making reference or giving personal references to PH/Outfitters that don't advertise on this forum.

But you can call me. I would be happy to discuss Cape Buffalo .
