My guess is Americans drink a whole lot more Crown Royal than Canadians drink Jack Daniel’s and Tito’s Vodka.. and the US distillers have already figured out how to deal with the shrink associated with the Canadian market..

I think it will be a whole lot harder for the Canadian distilleries to adjust… they’re losing a significantly larger market…

Americans that drink crown are typically very loyal to the brand.. but if it becomes inaccessible or priced higher than the true “premiums” brands, there are lots of American ryes to turn to…
Distillers have not figured out how to deal with the shrink of the Canadian market, and wineries really haven't. It is our number one export market for wine and number two for spirits. It accounts for 35% of foreign sales for American wineries.

Well at least it did. Since the boycotts in response to tariffs it has dropped to 6th for spirits and around that for wine.

The industry has historically been a fantastic example of free and fair trade. Spirits have been at 0% in both directions with Canada and the EU for decades. Wine has had very small reciprocal tariffs with the EU but been very balanced.

Both categories are now caught up in a trade war that has nothing to do with them. And at a time when the industry has declined across the board for multiple years for the first time maybe in history. Distillers are sitting on huge inventories (which if in Kentucky they pay an inventory tax on every year), declining sales, and now increasing trade barriers. Most major distillers have gone through significant restructuring to cut costs and many small ones have already shut down or are on the verge.

Trade disruption if very problematic for the wine and spirits industry, this ban will not help.

And it works brilliantly… you’re probably the single best example of that on AH… a single news cycle can’t pass without you jumping onto even the most minor outrage about Trump,
Well, the intention to annex other countries is certainly no small matter. Ultimately, it’s a declaration of war.
If Putin and Xi were to follow these examples and use this rhetoric, there would have been a military buildup at the borders long ago.
What I don’t understand: Most of you are smart, well-traveled people, yet you idolize DT’s behavior as if he were your Messiah.
Anyone who voices criticism here is a damned liberal who’s siding with the communists and wants to expropriate us all.

Is it the lack of prospects (as is the case here) that makes you put up with this?

thats the problem Foxi.. its not an intention at all.. its trolling.. and anyone paying any attention at all knows it...

hes said he wants Canada, Greenland, and a host of other things.. he says all sorts of shit.. posts crazy crap on social media, etc..

and none of it actually happens..

What I dont think you understand is no, most people on this forum dont idolize DT's behavior.. most actually dont like him as a person at all, and only marginally approve/like some of his policy..

the issue is the alternatives the US has been presented are generally seen as much worse.. if given the choice between DT and Harris again tomorrow, even after the last 2 years with DT in office, I'd almost guarantee he would be elected again.. if given the choice between Trump and Newsome, or Trump and AOC, or Trump and pretty much most of the most vocal leaders of the D party.. Trump get elected again..

Not because the US adores him...

But because the alternatives are far worse..

If either party would grow a set of balls and present a candidate somewhere closer to the center as opposed to running to the far left and the far right, I'd guess that candidate would win in a landslide.. people are fed up with the nonsense in Washington...

The problem is you cant win a national primary without the support of the extreme left or extreme right... so.. thats where candidates go to get the votes..

I think if you asked most conservative members of this forum who they would like to see on the R ticket in 2 years, theyre going to tell you Rubio over Vance.. or they might go for DeSantis..

While both Rubio and DeSantis are conservatives, both are much more polished than Trump, both are more centrist than Trump, and both are less isolationist than Trump/Vance..

The challenge is going to be getting Rubio on the ticket... the mere fact that centrists R's, independents, and even some center left folks would vote for Rubio would be enough to turn the far right against him..

Every now and again I take a few weeks off from the politics thread. I came back this morning to see it hasn’t changed.
But this post from @mdwest was one of the most insightful posts that I’ve seen.
It pretty much fits my thoughts to a T.

Mostly agree. But make no mistake, the left socialist commie libtards in the media, most Dems and the handful here on this forum will turn like a poisonous snake on whomever the GOP candidate will be- DeSantis, Vance, Cruz, Rubio… won’t matter. They do not share a positive vision for America they are globalists by choice or default ignorant stupidity. The media is the tip of their spear… fawning over a perceived or created “moderate” on our side, pushing them to the top then tuning on them like the snakes they are.

Thought this is what UK governments have been doing to the British people for years now......taken from the BBC article ..what a useless arsehole milliband is

He said ethnic cleansing was defined by the UN as a "purposeful policy designed by one ethnic or religious group to remove by violent means another ethnic or religious from certain areas".

Agreeing with several of the above posts.

I do not and have not cared for DJT's style since 2016. I have always thought he had an opportunity to be better received (excluding the loons on the far left who will hate anything and anyone who is pro America or against their "policies") if he would just shut up. His personality turns off a lot of people, but his actual policy has mostly been positive from my perspective, especially in the first term.

Given the option to vote today for Trump vs Harris, Biden, Clinton, or any of the 2028 Dem front-runners, I would vote Trump in a heartbeat. The Left is so anti-American and ridiculously loony in their ideas and policies that I cannot fathom how they maintain support from even moderate left. It's why people Elon Musk and many more are now considered Right, when in fact they remained the same but their party went so far Left, it left them behind. Even Trump was historically Democrat, but is now labeled far-right, racist, Nazi, (insert Dem talking point here), and MAGA has gone from a slogan to a despised "right wing nutjob" group in the eyes of the radical left and their brainwashed sheep. Some of those sheep post on this forum.

You don't have to like the person to see Trump is a far better choice for President than the alternatives who have run against him.

I hate how divided the Rs and Ds have become. Both kowtow to their extreme supporters rather than use common sense or try to appeal to the majority. I would win in a landslide victory if I were to be named to either R or D candidate for 2028 president, not because I am supremely qualified, but because I would appeal to the masses. But it wont happen because I am not wealthy enough nor willing to bend knee to the radical nonsense. I really do believe another civil war is coming, mostly because I don't see how it can be avoided with both sides growing further apart. Otherwise, the fall of the US as we know it is inevitable. These midterms may push that even further given the absolute hatred shown by one side towards the sitting president.

With the exception of the troll who visits this thread with zero hunting discussion of any kind, most of us are much more alike than different. I Ignore those who refuse to post competent thoughts or have a reasonable discussion, but otherwise don't mind seeing differing viewpoints.

Rant over, let's all go hunting. Even if that's with a stubborn lab who got a little heavy mouthed late in the morning on the dove he retrieved.

It's not "lack of prospects" it's a complete FAILURE of the other parties to even understand what Americans are concerned with, and I think this same issue has just been put on full display in Germany...

Seriously, when the openly lesbian leader of the AFD who's lesbian partner was born in Sri Lanka stands up and says this.....

YOU KNOW THE OPPOSITION IS TONE DEAF!

Anyone in Germany surprised by the AfD surge is either willfully ignorant of the peoples concern or is rotten to the core.

I’m not a fan of trump by any means but this one is a justified reaction. Alcohol sales in Canada are provincially regulated so for example in Nova Scotia where I live the only legal supplier of alcohol is the provincial liquor stores giving them a monopoly. Most Canadian provinces pulled American liquor off the shelves at the beginning of the trade war. I haven’t been able to buy American alcohol sense march of last year.

@WAB if you do make it to Nova Scotia this year take pity on my poor bar and bring me some buffalo trace and wild turkey. I’ll gladly reimburse you for your troubles, I’m a big fan of Canadian whiskey but they just don’t make a whiskey sour come out right.
Many liquor stores in Alberta will ship alcohol, including US products, to Nova Scotia. Just saying.

Most of the political establishment is tone deaf. They just run around in their own self aggrandising echo chambers. The question then is, is it incompetence (failure to see due to ego) ? Or is it with intent (ulterior motives)?

If the political establishment of the EU were actually bringing in the mass migration for ulterior motives...... What would they be doing differently than they are currently?

Examples.....

I recently read a report where the British home office reported that of the 300,000+ job vacancies that were filled in the year 2025 only 11,000 of those jobs went to people born in the U.K.

There was a report put out by the EU stating that as of January 2026 85% of the population of Belgium under the age of 21 were born in another country.

I mean, how many victims do you have to endure before the home office hands out pamphlets telling "asylum seekers" that they are not allowed to........

Cut or harm a girl's genitals
Beat Children
Have sex with someone under 16yo
Deny children food, shelter or care
Rape
Domestic violence

Screen shots of the actual pamphlets.....

NOTE: These pamphlets were not handed out for the safety of citizens, these were handed out to try and lower the number of asylum claims being denied for sexual assault and child abuse convictions!

Interesting deep dive into the lead up to the Prime Air wreck in Miami

For all the counter-Trump posts, many others like that Trump gets stuff done!

So I haven't been posting much recently, mostly because surgery on my wrist has limited keyboard ability. But earlier, someone requested "documentation" on "supposed" biases in schools. I saw this today:

It's a "gift link", so the paywall shouldn't be an issue.

Should that not be enough, start here:

I agree the trade imbalances have to be addressed and I agree with most of DJT’s policies, but I have many Canadian friends, some won’t answer my emails. His big mouth pisses me off, he could have done things in a more gentlemanly way, but look at the alternatives in the 2024 election.

I was just back in Ontario for a wedding. Still no American liquor or wine. I wanted a bourbon so I tried a Canadian imitation, terrible stuff! They are only hurting themselves with this liquor nonsense.

Bang on, and Foxi you do us a huge disservice when you claim that most of us idolize DT. I for one have never voted for him in a primary, but have reluctantly voted for him in the generals as the alternatives were much worse.

Hi Dr. Ray, I will be in Cooktown from Oct 16 to Oct 23 fishing Lizard Island Black Marlin Tournament.

I have several "slack" days after fishing before I head for stay in Sydney and Fiji.

Do you have any recommendations for 1 or 2 day hunt near Cooktown?

I've hunted both DG and PG in 4 different countries in Africa.
Thank you,
Bob

Good morning. I see that you had a Sauer 202 for sale for $3,000. Did you sell it at that price?
I have one for sale as well. I listed it (on here ) at $3,000 as well. Is the price high, low or right where it should be?

Thanks. Alex. [redacted] in case you want to call me to discuss further. I appreciate your time help and support.
